This Farmhouse in Pune is Deeply Rooted in Organic Living | Roheena Nagpal Design Studio
The absence of false ceilings enhances the space’s openness. Moreover, the use of natural materials like Gokak stone and handcrafted elements reflects an organic, earthy aesthetic.
The architecture seamlessly blends contemporary elements with traditional craftsmanship, allowing the house to evolve with its environment. Moreover, the open-plan layout maximizes natural views. Additionally, it creates a sanctuary where tranquility and modernity coexist.
The entrance to the farmhouse is framed by majestic palm trees. Additionally, a grand double door crafted from Jodhpur wood immediately sets a rustic yet welcoming tone. The natural texture of burnt wood adds character and uniqueness to the space.
The Gokak stone paving leads you to the heart of the home. However, it sets the stage for the harmonious connection with nature that unfolds within.
The living area showcases a striking mix of antique and contemporary elements. A central two-century-old Naga table takes pride of place, surrounded by modern sofas, creating an intriguing juxtaposition.
The expansive glass frontage brings in panoramic valley views, connecting the indoor and outdoor spaces.
The soft glow of cane lights from Nagaland heightens the room’s warmth, delicately hanging from white lime-washed wooden rafters. The design evokes comfort, peace, and an appreciation for craftsmanship.
The kitchen is the focal point of the common area. It features a 10-foot granite island that provides an uninterrupted view of the valley. Additionally, the open-plan layout of the dining and kitchen spaces ensures that the beauty of the surroundings is visible from every corner.
Thoughtfully placed vintage copper utensils, black granite elements, and bespoke furniture pieces maintain the farmhouse’s cohesive rustic-modern blend.
The adjoining dining space features a modern yet organic aesthetic, where the view becomes as much a part of the dining experience as the food.
The bedrooms are particularly designed with privacy, comfort, and tranquility in mind.
A large window frames the valley view, while the interior is furnished with minimalistic yet thoughtful pieces.
Natural materials dominate the space, offering a peaceful retreat that allows for rest and reflection. The cabin, similarly, follows the minimalist theme, embracing simplicity without compromising on luxury.
The farmhouse features a rustic wooden staircase leading to the lower-level lawns, where bamboo railings complement the olive-green wall.
The use of natural elements such as stone flooring and a wooden pergola further enhances the outdoor living experience.
The area provides breathtaking views of the pool and valley, offering a perfect space for relaxation. Moreover, the large outdoor terrace is designed as a serene spot, ideal for social gatherings or quiet contemplation. Additionally, it is enriched with pampas grass and verdant plants.
The inspiration for Bhide’s Farmhouse comes from an appreciation of both modern minimalism and traditional craftsmanship. Roheena Nagpal drew inspiration from historical references, such as the ancient Jodhpur door and the antique Naga table, creating a seamless fusion of past and present.
The project also takes cues from organic architecture, emphasizing a connection with the environment. The use of local materials like Gokak stone, bamboo, and granite is a nod to sustainability, while the thoughtful inclusion of handwoven cane lights and vintage copper utensils adds a timeless quality to the space.
The biggest challenge faced during the design and execution phase of this farmhouse in Pune was integrating modern comfort with traditional materials in a way that both honored the past and embraced the future. Achieving a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces required meticulous planning, especially with the expansive glass frontage and the strategic positioning of walls to optimize insulation while maintaining the aesthetic of openness. The unique requirement of combining rustic, organic elements with contemporary design also posed challenges in sourcing and crafting bespoke pieces that would complement the farmhouse’s ethos.
