This North Facing House Exudes Gentle Luxury | VPA Architects

[Sassy_Social_Share]

This North Facing villa opens towards the East to always soak in the cool and diffused light. Its orientation is mindful of the adjoining clubhouse and its expansive garden. The planning allows the villa’s private lawn to visually merge with it, creating a larger and cohesive space. With a connection to the open space at its core, porous spatial planning became the keystone for the project.

Design Philosophy

The villa’s architecture, which is designed across multiple levels, choreographs a seamless visual and physical dialogue with the landscape. Thus, it offers moments of pause, flow, and quiet introspection. The entry sequence unfolds with quiet theatricality, where a vestibule wrapped in glass blocks filters light into a gallery-like threshold.

Vestibule

A grand Ganesha mural anchors the vestibule, set against the subtle hues of whites, ivories, and warm browns. The entry space appears to float beneath a cantilevered concrete slab, creating a striking impression of lightness and arrival.

Entrance

The elevations feature wooden screens, while redwood on the ceilings continues onto selected walls. This idea blends warmth with material continuity, thus reinforcing the home’s contrast design. The spatial layout unfolds like a checkerboard, interlinking private and public areas through a thoughtful use of landscape, light, and levels.

Meanwhile, the north-facing car park is discreetly positioned with an indirect access route, ensuring it remains hidden from immediate view. Indirect entrances and layered façade details allow the design to explore both opacity and translucence, offering subtle glimpses of what lies ahead.

Courtyard

Adjacent to the living room, a carved courtyard becomes crucial to this L-shaped layout, allowing cross ventilation across both storeys and linking the indoors with the landscape in yet another direction.

Generous open spaces allow for easy movement and everyday comfort, especially for the kids and family. Designed for a family that loves to host, each area is planned to accommodate gatherings and bring people together with ease.

Living Area

The living area, glazed with fluted glass on one side, opens onto a deck that extends toward a lush lawn. While one side flows into the living space, the other opens to an indoor veranda under the sky, blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors.

Kitchen

The dual kitchens, discreetly tucked away, reflect the design-infused rhythm of daily routine while maintaining their sense of privacy. The main kitchen embraces an open layout with an island top in the center, thus anchoring movement and maximizing storage by flowing effortlessly into a warm dining space.

Dining Area

Much like the home’s soft interiors, the dining area features a square table and a bright colour palette, opening onto the lawn and extending into the outdoor dining space.

Overall, the interiors reflect a subtle vibe with lots of natural light from the north facing windows, merging soft luxury with quiet tones and neutral artworks so that nothing feels overwhelming.

Puja Space

Positioned between the veranda and the drawing room, a double-height puja space opens onto a serene patch of greenery. It is enriched with bright colors and a privacy screen that reflects the home’s contrasting design. Besides that, a sculptural staircase with a wooden spine ascends from the basement to the second floor, bathed in natural light and the soft glow of a graceful chandelier above.

First Floor

The upper floor features cosy bedrooms besides a vibrant kids’ room designed with a bold, playful vibe, decorated with funky posters, a window, and a study area integrated into the soft interior palette. In contrast, the other bedrooms adopt a calmer tone, where sky-lit bathrooms introduce quiet variations and invite in natural light.

Basement

The architects designed the basement as a retreat that transforms into a plush home theatre. They finished it in muted tones and softened the space with a luxurious sofa and deeply comfortable seating, creating a serene escape from the bustle above.

Landscape

The landscape remains seamlessly tied to the house, forming green pockets that are both soothing and spirited. Designed to host large gatherings, the outdoor spaces come alive with warm lighting and curated landscape, thus striking the perfect balance between relaxation and festivity.

Energy Conservation

Topping it all, solar panels installed on the terrace ensure the home not only gives back to its inhabitants, but also to the environment, quietly working in the background to conserve energy and support sustainable living.
