The credo for this project was to design a unique family house that harmoniously blends contemporary and traditional architectural style, reflecting the client’s desire for a modern living space that retains classic charm. The scenic entryway leads to an open-concept living area, seamlessly connecting the kitchen, dining, and living spaces while including traditional design elements, such as detailed beading and textures, which help enhance the traditional ambience of the spaces. A muted colour palette accented with rich, warm tones will create an inviting atmosphere, while sustainable materials and energy-efficient systems will ensure a modern touch.
This Traditional Style House Retains the Classic Charm | Ocube Architects
The entrance of the house serves as a striking introduction to the harmonious blend of contemporary and traditional styles. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a beautifully crafted front door with classic panelling and elegant hardware, reflecting traditional craftsmanship. After entering, your eyes are laid upon the beautifully crafted console with modern and traditional design features creating an emphasis on itself before stepping into other spaces. This is accompanied by the semi-transparent metallic partition, which helps segregate the foyer space from the formal living area.
The formal living room is designed as an elegant space that embodies the perfect fusion of contemporary and traditional aesthetics, making it ideal for hosting guests and special occasions.
Upon entering the room, wallpaper and textures, combining frames with traditional artwork, adorn the walls, bridging the gap between the two styles. Lighting is provided by a statement chandelier that features a contemporary design while including traditional materials, casting a warm glow over the space.
Furnishings include elegant sofas and armchairs upholstered in rich fabrics, creating a comfortable yet refined atmosphere. A mute area rug with textures that blend with the flooring creates an easy flow and continuity between spaces.
Upon entering, the drawing area captures attention with its elegant furnishings and artwork on the wall, with elegant beadings on the walls creating a frame of a beautiful imagination in the eyes and minds of the viewers. A centre table, made from gold-finished metal and with white round marble with a modern design, is complemented by sofas and armchairs that blend with the warm muted-coloured wall.
An intricately detailed mandir was placed along the wall of the drawing room, creating a welcoming place for the people of the house to get together and dedicate their time towards blessings in a serene, calm, and open space.
The dining and drawing rooms seamlessly combine with each other and even complement the common space in a perfect blend between lively and calm ambience.
The dining area features a substantial wooden dining table. It is crafted in a modern style and with a natural colour palette, comfortably seating eight to ten guests. The chairs surrounding the table are also upholstered in luxurious fabrics, increasing comfort without sacrificing style. The blend between drawing and dining is complimented by a contemporary chandelier. It is also adorned with clean lines that contrast beautifully with the ornate elements of the room. Thus, creating an inviting atmosphere.
The kitchen serves as a warm and inviting heart of the home. Thus, it easily merges modern functionality with the common space, creating a smooth transition between spaces and functions between each other. Upon entering, you are greeted by a spacious layout that emphasises both practicality and aesthetic appeal. Moreover, it is ideal for cooking and spending quality time.
State-of-the-art appliances are seamlessly integrated into the cabinetry, providing modern convenience while maintaining the kitchen’s traditional aesthetic. Lighting plays a crucial role in the kitchen’s design. Thus, featuring a combination of pendant lights above the island and adequate lighting throughout. Moreover, ensuring a bright and welcoming atmosphere. The flooring, crafted from warm hardwood, also ties the space together, enhancing its inviting feel.
The use and play of beading on the walls are a characteristic feature that creates the identity of the bedrooms. Thus, signifying the type of users and setting. Parent’s rooms are however accompanied by bold design elements. Therefore, creating a sense of leadership, whereas the kids’ space makes use of rounded elements to create a safe and joyful environment.
Entering the bedrooms, you are welcomed by a soothing colour palette of soft neutrals and rich colours. Thus, accented with deep jewel tones that create a tranquil atmosphere.
Each room was designed in accordance with the comfort of the person using the particular room, which also helps them bring the mood and soul of the person.
Therefore, with a play of shape, colour and texture, each room speaks to the person about its ambience. Moreover, the washroom space becomes the extension of the bedrooms by following the design principles of each room.
