The brief from the client was to design their 2-bedroom modern design apartment home with a key concept of cohesiveness within the given budget and tight area. We understood the specific requirements of all 3 family members—the couple, their kid, and their lifestyle and day-to-day tasks and activities to incorporate into the apartment. The core idea was to create a warm and welcoming space where they could enjoy spending time as a family.
The design aesthetic used in the apartment is a mix of contemporary and modern with pops of biophilia and pattern clashes of elements and artefacts used in the house.
The Modern Design of this Home is Cohesive Within the Given Budget | Design Metrics Studio
We enter the living room from the double-designed safety door and main door where we had the dining area. We went for ceiling-hung curtains to make the space look visually taller.
As one can see, there are pops of artefacts like the printed cushions and a beautifully patterned rug in the living area. The TV wall was designed such that it hides the door to the son’s bedroom in panelling.
Moving on to the open kitchen, it was designed to make the space look larger, and we proposed an open window with frames that had artefacts and plants.
We hung eclectic lights above the service counter, which also serves as a breakfast area. The window frame we designed creates a visual connection between the kitchen and the living area.
The master Bedroom was designed to have a minimal design, warm colours, undertones of beige and brown with accents like cushions and wainscoting below the TV wall to be the pop element. We also created a small nook to read and chill by the window.
We designed the son’s bedroom to be vibrant and eclectic, perfectly suited for him as he grows up. Moreover, we included curves in the design of the wardrobe, the headboard, and even the handles.
Also, the son’s bedroom is my favourite. It is the kind of space that I would have loved having growing up. The design is highly cohesive and adapts seamlessly as the child grows, requiring no alterations.
We crafted all the furniture in plywood and laminated every surface inside and out. In some areas, we have used louvres for panelling, like the TV unit and son’s bedroom door hidden in the panelling. We finished the walls with paint and added wallpaper in the son’s bedroom.
This project’s unique selling proposition lies in crafting spaces that feel both welcoming and distinctive. Each area stands out individually, yet they seamlessly connect to form a cohesive, unified experience.
