From it’s inception, our sustainable office space reflects our studio’s principles of reuse and sustainability. We wanted to strike a perfect balance between functionality and sustainability.
Our Sustainable Office Space Is A Reflection Of Our Studio’s Principles Of Reuse | Sampratyay 2.0
From the overall space layout, to the materials and even the positioning of windows, there was a careful consideration and thoughtful execution of every element. Our goal was to create a space that not only looks great, but also has a positive impact on the environment and the people inhabiting it.
We wanted to limit the presence of concrete in our space. Metal frames took the basic structure, and tin metal corrugated sheet made up the roof.
The metal used for facade was reused from scrap hollow metal pipes. The walls and ceiling were cladded with “chip boards”- wooden boards made by compressing and pasting of waste wooden chips.
Most of the furniture are old and used pieces from our home and flea-markets which we renovated and gave new life and meaning.
Some of the cabinets, partitions and even lights were built in-situ using leftover chip boards and other materials. We also added a lot of plants to add character and life to the entire studio.
After a lot of search and shortlisting we chose this particular piece of space, which was basically the terrace of an under construction building, to be our office space.
The Terrace offered us with great view of mountains, ample light from morning till evening and good ventilation.
The arrangement of furniture pieces dictated the use of each space providing enough privacy to users while being in an open sort of arrangement.
The main challenge while designing was the tight budget that we allotted ourselves for our office space. Reuse and recycling of materials was the main idea behind all the design process. Another challenge while execution was the monsoons of Dehradun.
Construction during heavy rain spells was really tough and we had to take extra precautions with the old and salvaged materials.
