This is a 4BHK, 2200 sq.ft apartment in Mumbai. It belongs to a family of four – a couple and their two school going girls. The rooms here are large and spacious with each of the bedrooms having separate walk in wardrobes. In terms of furniture, the brief was to keep the rooms uncluttered with lots of open space. In terms of vibe, the clients wanted light, earthy finishes with nature inspired design.
Editor’s Note: This adobe located in Wadala takes it inspiration from nature and reflects serenity in every corner. The minimal house has a very distinctive feel of vibrancy to it. Walking into the different theme of nature in different color palate of rooms one can feel the variation of emotions that it evokes. The doll house kitchen and autumn green vestibule creates a refreshing balance with the warm and white living area. As one steps into the house it create a feeling of stepping into the nature on a bright sunny day. ~ Shagun Shah
Light, Earthy Finishes With A Nature Inspired Design | Ariyona Interior
We started with the greens and beiges in the foyer. Since the space has black flooring and no source of direct sunlight, we thought we’d further intensify its dark vibe instead of trying to negate it. We used an earthy sage green on the walls and ceiling to give it a moody vibe.
Since the foyer is long and narrow, we designed a console to match. It fills up the space nicely without getting in the way. The single black leg is a quirky element that helps to tie in all the black accents we have in the living room.
The living and dining areas are again finished in whites, beiges with hints of green, and a sprinkle of black accents all over. The hand painted crockery unit in the dining area is a showstopper.
The bar unit has sliding shutters that cover the bar to make a display unit at most times.
The common wall between the dining and kitchen was broken down so that we could fit the bar unit flush into that wall instead of ahead of it. This left the passageway clear of any obstruction.
The staff area was merged with the kitchen to make it an ‘L’ shape. The long counter as you enter makes the main cooking counter.
The smaller arm of the ‘L’ make the cleaning area and a pantry style storage area. We moved to an earthy peach and wood finish here.
We rounded it up with the deeper blues of the ocean in the master bedroom. By painting just half a wall in this beautiful shade of blue, we gave prominence to the colour while still keeping most of the room white and light.
The blue pendants and artwork stand out beautifully against the white walls. This contrast is reversed in the bottom half with the white bedside tables and headboard fabric prominent against the blue walls. The floral chest of drawers and curtains carry elements of nature into the master bedroom too.
Both the girls wanted florals in pinks and purples, so we made a conscious effort to make sure they didn’t both look the same.
So while one bedroom has a lighter mural of vines coming from the ceiling, the other has a delicate floral pattern across the entire wall.
Finally, lighter blues of the skies complete our guest room. The furniture is kept very simple here. A study table on one side along with a sofa cum bed in the center allow this room to be used as a home office and family room by the family. The chest of drawers makes a luggage rack cum storage space for guests when required.
This home reflects nature in every corner. The overall vibe is one of serenity and vibrancy, both coexisting… just like they do in nature.
