A Cardiac Clinic That Looks Like An Office | Art is Interior Design

Located at the heart of the city a 700 Sq.ft clinic is nestled between two great hospitals, KEM and Sassoon A bare shell and open layout was given to us with a detail brief and very in-depth requirement list from the client to design a cardio clinic. As the client was crystal clear with his detail requirements it helped us a lot to design the space. A cardiac clinic that looks like an office.

A Cardiac Clinic That Looks Like An Office | Art is Interior Design | Art Is Interior Design

Thoughtful placement of each cabin, allotment of all machines and emergency passageways was the main part of spatial planning and designing.

You are greeted by a very bright and attractive entrance which slowly softens down as and when you progress into the interior of the clinic transforming informal to formal spaces. The clinic has 1 main reception and 1 reception for reports & drug dispensary, 2 consultation cabins for doctors, 1 check-up room, 1 pantry, 1 common washroom and 1 bathroom for staff.

The space had to be planned taking into consideration the circulation needed for an emergency stretcher to maneuver throughout the clinic, as per this the doors were inter locked and designed such that they would either slide or open in 180 degrees making enough space for the cabins to open up and merge into a big space. All the 3 cabins are interconnected. The consultation tables were design such that they can be folded make space for the emergency bed.

Carefully planned sliding curtains for patients to change also creating a space for nursing babies. Fixed seating for waiting area with loose chairs was a great combination for reception area. Where every cabin wears its individuality yet merges up to become cohesive is the best part about the clinic.

This kind of layout allowed individual spaces to open and connect, and expand into the other creating vast space for emergency.  Client had a very keen eye for the details so the space turned out to be very optimistic and put to is use to its full potential.

As natural lighting was very limited we used glass wherever possible to open out the spaces. The elements and textures used in the space are the ones that bring this space to life. Restrained palate to make patients feel relaxed and calm.

We used Asian Paints neutral colours, grey walls, bright white ceiling, ambient lights in reception, a bit of pastels in décor, simple linear line patterns in design and textures with a play in laminate from Royale Touché. We also tried to play with light and shadows with the wooden venetian blinds which gave an interesting look to the space.

The frames from IKEA with pastel abstract paintings bring some kind of light mood in reception area. Simplistic and contemporary design, wooden textures through laminate and blinds, pastel furnishings, monochromatic walls, changing to light and shadows gives a dimension that adds tranquillity to the space. Different types of texture glass were used in doors and partition with wooden venetian blinds maintaining privacy wherever necessary.

Fluted glass panels on doors creates a seamless language across the space. Thoughtful planning of interconnected spaces ensured that the spaced looked spacious inspite of the vast requirement list. Intimate floor plan, functionally intricate cabins, emergency passageways and interconnected spaces were the challenges for this tight spatial design.

The total timeline of the project from the date of measurements to handover was 3.5 months, in which our scope included everything from laying of electrical lines, flooring, false ceiling, AC ducting, civil, washrooms, plumbing, carpentry, painting, soft furnishings, signage’s, loose décor, fire and sprinklers etc.

Overall the concept was to design a space which should look like an office and not a hospital. The space planning of the project was the most important part with 9 doors in total in the entire space, we call this very close to our heart project as “ a clinic of doors”.
