An Eclectic Home where Design Theories Fuse | By the riverside

By the riverside, in their absolute love for everything vintage in this eclectic home that makes time stand still.

Featuring a palette of dreams, vivid colours, textures, prints, and patterns, this eclectic home complements the family’s lifestyle. It also stays true to their heritage and heart. The house is designed for a couple from Goa who have settled in Bangalore with their 10 year old son.

Editor’s Note: The lovely Indo-Contemporary abode in Bangalore is a trinket box of all things loved by the residents. The interiors speak volumes of its Goan heritage through the eclectic fusion of treasured antiques, tinted wood furniture, and murals. Every imaginable colour and material palette is beautifully interwoven, like a collage of vivid styles, thus reflecting the designer’s conscious and exuberant thought process. – Gopika Pramod

An Eclectic Home where Design Theories Fuse | By the riverside

A little back story

Meet the homeowner Divya, an artist at heart. Much like her love for painting, she indeed wished for her home to bustle with colours and character, reflecting her personality.

Eclectic home

A nod to their Goan heritage, an exposed brick wall further envelopes the family room which adds gravitas to the space. Made from custom prints by local artisans, the lounge chair and ottoman double up as the perfect corner to enjoy a stunning sunset.

Eclectic home

Large custom made Bar table is decorated with Divya’s collection of Tanjore art that she collected before buying this home.

On the other hand, Suraj, Divya’s husband is a contrasting pragmatic personality. Together, they are an energetic combination like the dramatic media room. The dark-toned den with a strategic mirror showcase is certainly all about family leisure time and indulgence.

Eclectic home

A fusion of two ideologies

Further, capturing a blend of traditional Goan roots with Divya’s artistic aptitude, this special hidden bar unit crafted in-house by By The Riverside is a metaphor for the home. Thus, a tribute to Indian culture, its Indo contemporary shutter design draws inspiration from traditional arches and motifs.

Kitchens are our favourite spaces to design and this one is planned in perfect symmetry with a central island counter and judicious doses of Goan colours, vibrancy, and authentic stained glass windows.

The vintage bedrooms

All three bedrooms flaunt distinct visual languages with a binding denominator – the wooden flooring

Eclectic home

Tucked away from the maximalist home, the main bedroom is doused in whites and sage greens offering a rejuvenating refuge to the vivacious couple.

What could a 10-year-old ask for in a bedroom? A sleek study table, a shelf that exhibits his collectibles and achievements, and maybe some tints of blue. So, the happy kid got it all, plus an exuberant rattan bed!

Eclectic home

The guest room additionally distinguishes itself from the other bedrooms with its soft tropical colour scheme of pastel pink and olive green and spectacular prints.

As designers, we often interpret design briefs in a way that best suits our firm’s design capabilities, but this home is different. When I first met Divya, her energy and enviable collection of artworks and paintings inspired me and we spontaneously decided to let her art guide us.

Over coffee, she revealed an ancestral trunk full of beautiful embroidered cushions and other antique artefacts dated back to her marriage. Today, every art piece is an integral part of the simple house thereby transforming it to an artist’s abode!
