  • The Store of ’91 Threads’ is Everything One Should Consider for a Prompt Boutique Design | Kunal Shah Architects

A fashion designer’s creative turf, the store of ’91 Threads’ is everything one should consider for a prompt boutique design with a yet refreshing take. Situated in the overall design-booming city of Ahmedabad, the designers saw this space as a white canvas to fill with meaningful elements and ideas with a story behind it. Originally purposed for a corporate house, the entire volume of the structure is dedicated to the art of crafting ornamental attires to be worn for special occasions.

The Store of ’91 Threads’ is Everything One Should Consider for a Prompt Boutique Design | Kunal Shah Architects

    Visit: Kunal Shah Architects

Since the clientele is deeply immersed in their profession, the principal designer of the firm, Kunal Shah, ensured that the space felt like a special occasion itself. ‘A fashion house’ as the designer fondly likes to call it, not only houses a boutique to showcase the vibrancy of Indian ethnic wear and minimal contemporary wear but it has dedicated areas for the craftsmen to soundly weave, work and achieve the stunning pieces of attire with incredibly intricate work.

The inspiration behind naming the store ‘91’ was to represent the country code of India. Upon stepping into the store, one faces the reception, a seating area and a cabin for discussions and meetings. This floor shows how the store is thoroughly innovative through how it presents itself.

The first feature that instantly grabs attention is the ceiling. Swatches of different shades, textures and patterns are hung from the ceiling, setting a colourful tone in the space. It represents India’s diverse personality of colours.

The versatile character of this feature makes the space have different moods, feel and ambience. according to changes in trending themes and new additions. The walls are cladded with traditionally carved-out wooden panels.

Additions like these can make one wait in the seating area and absorb inspiration. Along with it are also scattered corners for the display of fresh attire designs.

Coming up on the first floor through the staircase with a granite and wood skin, there is an array of framed accomplishments. A clever setting that celebrates ethnic fashion while in transition. Women’s attire is dedicated to the first level. The entire look of the floor is aimed to be charmingly rustic.

Popcorn texture plaster blankets the arches with a PU finish, a brave experiment by the designer and succeeding. Textures like these are rarely seen around clothing that are to be taken care of, and yet the result was very smooth.

Plus, it brings on a charming difference among the sea of lively pops of clothing. The wooden waffle ceiling doesn’t disturb the character of the space and has its special dialogue with some identity. It is imbued with tinted glass and traditional patterns carved on wrought iron.

On the second floor, half of the level has men’s selection of attire, and the other half has cabins. It also houses the designer’s studio along with separate discussion areas.

The last floor consists of a production unit where the skills of artistry comes out through absolutely intricate work, done the traditional way. There are plenty of storage options within its captivity. It is because of a facility like this that makes this store and the entire brand itself, a success. Because everyone works together, under the same roof, same ideologies, and brainstorms to shape and mould their vision.

Another feature is the principal designer’s inculcation of details, be it the main door handle, the ceiling, the patterned carve-out, or the staircase unit. The zest for creation is evident in this boutique in every corner one sets their eye on.
