Amol and Ekta, an ingenious architect duo, embarked on a journey that led to the genesis of “The Collective Praxis.” Beyond a mere name, it symbolises a harmonious amalgamation of distinct styles, simplicity and shared ethos. Their path, however, was not just about establishing a studio—it was about crafting a haven that breathed life into their architectural visions.

Amol, an Urban Planner & Architect, possesses a remarkable knack for intricate architectural details. His dedication to simplicity and minimalism infuses thoughtfulness into every endeavour he undertakes. On the flip side, Ekta’s two-year corporate stint left her yearning for a more profound purpose. In 2019, she took the bold step of embarking on a journey in architecture. Her skill as a proficient curator and assembler further enhances her capabilities in this field.
But where they complement each other are their ideologies and the philosophies they believe in. They ended up deciding that the studio should be a collaborative & open working space. All that required was a large space with a huge table where the ideas would be shared in a cosy environment. A 1BHK space located on the first floor with the huge and airy veranda was chosen to set up their studio.
As you walk in, you enter into the Veranda, which has now been converted into the receiving space. The central focus of this space is a swing and the old sofa which has been painted white. The space has turned up into a sitting area, where the informal discussions happen over a cup of coffee.
The walls & furniture are plain white but the character to this space is added by the full height bamboo blinds which are kept unpolished. The cushions with patchwork and hand woven dhurrie adds a hint of colours to the space. Adjusting the blinds, adds up a little drama to the space.
The life to the space is added by the plants. The team now spends more time in the veranda than in the studio. Given the Amol’s social nature, his friends keep popping in for that evening cup of tea.
Connected to this veranda is the studio, again with the plain white walls. Here the focus of the space is the working table, and its sage green adds the soul to the space. A niche was carved out into the wall which became a storage and display for the books and folders.
The walls have the pin up boards where the works of the studio are displayed and keeps the team on track by keeping the discussed sheets always visible. The pin up boards have swatches of the materials which creates mood boards for the projects.
What makes the whole space feel cosy, and a space where one would like to linger in is the unpolished raw look to materials and earthy textures. The existing Kota floor with marble tiklis goes very well with the ambience of the space. The wooden shelves and the under structure of the table are kept natural which adds to the beauty of the studio.
The overall warm & cosy ambience that the space has resulted makes the studio personal sanctuary for the architect duo. In the heart of Nagpur, “The Collective Praxis” is not just a studio; it’s a narrative of two individuals who transformed a space into a haven where architecture and philosophy converge.
