Editor’s Note: For the absolute love of Monochrome, Unbox Design Studio has unveiled layers of serene hues in this residence. The chequered entryway arouses a incredible sense of curiosity of what’s beyond. The master bath has a feeling of infinity  with its white and radiating temperament. The affinity for black and white paneling in the common areas is contagious and a bold choice while the sundeck sets the perfect tone to spend the golden hour among potted greens and natural stone textures overlooking the Arabian expanse. ~ Nishal Sevak

    A Teasing Entryway

Upon entering the apartment, visitors are greeted by a tantalizing entryway that sets the tone for the luxurious experience that awaits. The conspicuous arched entryway door, framed in black and punctuated with bevelled glass of varying sizes, opens into a passage featuring captivating Victorian diagonal checkered flooring in black diana and pearl white marble, creating a sense of anticipation and opulence. The walls are adorned with Dutch wall coverings, while the ceiling is defined by a bold black beading. The space features a sleek console table embellished with abstract artwork.

    The Living and Dining Room

Crossing the threshold of the arched partition, one proceeds towards the living and dining room of the
residence, which offer a sprawling open layout that promises an unforgettable experience.
The couple is known for their social prowess and hence desired a room that could comfortably
    accommodate guests without feeling cluttered.

The design approach here embraces a minimalist furniture layout, allowing for free-flowing movement and creating a sense of openness. The carefully selected exquisite sofa and armchairs, complemented by the side tables and sofa back consoles, form an ensemble of refined elegance.

The unconventional island seating arrangement at the center of the arched partition, complemented by a large restoration hardware inspired crystal chandelier further flanked by table lamps forming a sort of a periphery to the seating, adds a distinctive touch to the space.

In line with the couple’s love for travel and art collecting, this space also showcases extraordinary artworks by Ramkumar, titled “1983, Acrylic on Paper” and Rabin Mandol’s “Untitled Women: Acrylic on board” among others, capturing the essence of the couple’s unique style.

    The Sleek and Elegant Kitchen

Following the lines and concept of the apartment, is the sleek and elegant kitchen, adorned with neutral tones, that epitomizes contemporary design. Stainless steel shutters and drawers, by Kuche 7 blend seamlessly with the Casa Mia flooring and the white ceaser stone platform, creating a harmonious culinary oasis. The hanging lights in the corner add playfulness to the crisp, linear space.

    The Passage of Poetic Harmony
The passageway is one of the most crucial aspects of the layout where the poetry of design comes alive.
This area carries the checkered motif from the entryway and connects it to each room. The unique flooring pattern, composed of small kite chips mirroring the entryway’s marble, serve as an eye-guide leading towards the large black arched doors of individual rooms. While the right wall of the passage is panelled and service doors to the utility and the store are strategically camouflaged, the left wall is decorated with mirrors and Art works by up-and-coming artists.

    The Enchanting Den
As one steps into the den room, they are immediately enveloped by the captivating ambience created through rich hues and contemporary allure, exuding the essence of Western life. Entirely dipped in a charcoal black colour, the den dons the cape of a versatile space whether to host intimate gatherings, accommodating additional guests, a movie or a karaoke night or to be used as a private study.

The delicately detailed wall panelling, a consequence of the streamlined geometrical patterns running across the space, acts as an enticing focal point in the room, and also as a riveting backdrop for zoom calls while one is at the quaint study spot. A boisterous grey sofa, a warm grey rug, a monochromatic modern artwork and an acrylic ghost chair come together to build the perfectly envisaged identity for the den: artistically powerful!

Moreover, the room seamlessly transitions and opens into the balcony, maximizing its potential and providing a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. This integration further enhances the overall functionality of the room, allowing occupants to enjoy the surrounding views and create a unified living experience.

    A Contemporary Oasis
In the guest bedroom, contemporary elements reign supreme. Deliberately frugal in its material palette, this room is nothing less than a luxurious classic. The off-white wardrobes with fine details are contrasted by the masculine black Crate & Barrel inspired nightstands, while the walls are adorned with coarse exquisite light crepe wallpaper, contrasted by a dark chanel fabric clad bed.

We believe these contrasts enhance the beauty of each other without apparent effort – furthering our pursuit of elegant minimalism.

    The Grand Finale
The master bedroom stands as the final destination of the apartment and is designed to be the epitome of grandeur, boasting a majestic walk-in wardrobe and an ultra-luxurious bathroom. If one observes closely, American-inspired design principles are evident, with an extra tall Wyoming King size bed, gigantic chesterfield headboard, and huge nightstands. The ebony oak distressed wooden flooring adds to the sense of opulence permeating the space.

The conscious injection of mixed metals in the form of black metal table lamps and a brass drink table deliver a somewhat timeless concoction. Retaining its minimalism with a jet black and pure white colour palette, the oversized walk-in wardrobe leaves us with starry eyes.

Finally, you walk across to what some might call the coup de grâce of the apartment, the ensuite bathroom, which opens up to a massive surprise you did not see coming. This all white punctuated-with brutal black, humongous bathroom includes wash basins for him and her, a sprawling bathtub, and breath-taking views overlooking the city through large glass glazed doors framed in black.

The design intent for the master suite was tethered to creating effortless immersive spaces which make the everyday ordinary experiences slightly less ordinary.

    The Outdoor Haven

Walking a few steps ahead, one could obliviously step into large balconies through expansive glazed doors, where the outdoors will greet you with a soft palette and an interesting play of light. The outdoor areas feature a well-appointed bar and ample seating options, inviting residents and guests alike to savour the panoramic view of the bustling cityscape with the Arabian Sea in the background. Since the ceiling had to be untouched to maintain the building’s decorum, we focussed on the flooring, where we fashioned mixed-sized squares arranged in an unkempt-orderly manner.

This was then balanced by the walls and the bar being cladded with natural contoured stone sourced from Pune. The outdoor vibes of the space were further enhanced by abundant invigorating greenery. The colour palette in this space was consciously kept tone-on-tone to create no visual distraction while being amidst nature.
