Editor’s Note: While the designs of the workstation and its environment are something to be mindful of, the areas that draw attention to take a break and stir an idea or brainstorm a breakthrough are equally crucial. And that is precisely something that is portrayed here. The leveled wooden decks are an engaging expanse overlooking the city till an eye’s reach. The working areas either connect visually to the central court or the city, giving the feel of working in a mega city. ~ Nishal Sevak(Co-Editor)

A Motivating Work Environment Matching the Timeless Design Quality of the Office Shell | FUSIONstudio

The brief was to achieve a timeless and classic, well planned and organized, modern and inspiring work environment, in which all team members, operations, research and management, will thrive and enhance the company’s output.
The special aspect and design challenge was the double height corner terrace, which FUSIONstudio transformed into a special work environment, the terrace lounge, spatially connected and visually extending the research area.
Programmatically it introduces a space to the work environment, which is less task oriented, but supports creativity and new ideas – one can go for a walk, meet and chat or invite friends and clients for events or presentations.
In the office setting this architecturally landscaped zone is a calm oasis, and encourages innovation and a lateral view which is the heart and core of the client’s expertise.
Conceptually the office is broken up into three main zones, firstly operations for staff and support services incl. a staff dining area, pantry, WC, meeting rooms and IT server spaces, secondly the management and research area, where the main creative work as well as the personal client contact takes place.
The third zone, the landscaped terrace lounge, invites various uses in semi-defined spaces through curved walls and varying floor heights, introducing different perspectives and spatial scales.
Here one finds space for private meetings with clients, breakout spaces to pause and contemplate away from your work desk, one may take a stroll for creative thinking, or attend large social events as well as informal lectures on the stepped landscape.
The choice of timeless materials and colours underlines each area’s function, blue, grey and simple white in the operations area, walnut flooring and paneling paired with statuario marble for the directors’ cabins, board room and research, extending the walnut feel into the terrace lounge.
The work environment is equipped with piped music which permeates the entire space giving it a calm zen-like atmosphere; lighting with colour temperature modulation enhances productivity and creates an ambience at the press of a button in desired locations, face recognition software is used throughout the space to afford privacy and security to the staff and directors.
The conceptual coherence of the location, the spatial design, the atmosphere and the choice of the technical equipment creates an experience, where people thrive and horizons extend.
