  • A Residence With Openness, Calmness, Connected To The Roots Yet With Contemporary Ideas | Fictive Five Design Studio

This 2BHK apartment, Placid Home, has been designed with two base ideas, one of creating calming yet lively spaces and the other was of connecting the spaces in a free-flowing manner such as each being a part of the other. Our clients came with the requirement of having a residence that aligns with their personal nature, a residence with openness, calmness, connected to the roots yet with contemporary ideas.

The couple in their post-retirement stage needed a space to feel relaxed and calm, alongside a place to cater to their religious needs.

While we had these requirements in consideration, the enthusiastic and creative business minded youth of the household had a different spin to their needs, wanting a thought-provoking space that encourages as well as drives their ever-ambitious ideas.

The blank canvas as we received it, a resale flat, was a living room connected to the outdoor terrace, which at that moment was an unusable wasted space. As seen in the layout, living room, outdoor terrace and kitchen were adjoining spaces yet disconnected by walls. Our idea was to connect these three spaces to make the most out of it.

The space has been designed such as to connect the outdoor terrace to both, the living room as well as the kitchen, such that it blends into the interior volumes forming a free-flowing space for the users. The minimal lines in the flooring, visually connecting the living room and open terrace area provide a minimal sense of continuity and flow in these adjoining spaces.

A contrasting blue colour has been added in the living and kitchen areas against the subtly used grey tones and a visual wooden texture.

The outdoor space can now be used as a place for relaxation and also be converted into a semi-enclosed space for dining as needed.

The peripheral rolling cane blinds provide a flexibility for maintaining privacy as convenient, while the transparent shaded roof of this terrace ensures all-time natural light.

Talking about the bedrooms, the parent’s bedroom has been designed with warm beige tones making it completely monochromatic to give a soothing effect, while certain elements have been added to give it a slight contemporary touch, such as vertically and horizontally running black lines, black mirror edges, sleek handles and a simple black and white floral wallpaper at the bed back.

Unlike the simple look and feel of the parent’s bedroom, the master bedroom has been designed with a colour pop of olive green along with the addition of basic curve in certain design elements, be it the study table edge, the bed back wall design feature or the column beam projection.

The bed back wall feature, executed with MDF, finished with PU paint, catches one’s eye as soon as they enter the room.

Another design idea was to make a seamless entrance door to this bedroom as the door originally opened directly into the living room, giving it less privacy.

The base of all design ideas was to create linear design elements throughout the apartment in order to have a visual connect between all spaces. Amidst the busy area of Panvel, lies this Placid Home, with our clients having the space of their liking.
