  • An Uncluttered Apartment Design With Smooth, Clean Lines And Artistic Flair That Exudes Warmth | go Beyondwalls

The Retreat – a quiet or secluded peaceful place in which one can rest and relax. This home of 890 Sq.ft in Andheri east, Mumbai is aesthetically designed by Mili Gajra, interior design consultant, “go Beyondwalls” for a retired bank official and his wife, both senior citizens. The clients needed their abode to be relaxing, functional, easy to maintain, colourful yet elegant and graceful and within a budget. Mili tried to incorporate all these elements into this vibrant and simplistic yet aesthetically designed home – “The Colourful Kutira”, an uncluttered apartment design with smooth, clean lines and artistic flair that exudes warmth. This imparts a comfortable and calming feeling in the house that is inviting and relaxing.

Editor’s note : “A budget-friendly Moroccan Journey.” Have you ever seen a house as playful as this? The Colourful Kutira is a visual delight with simplicity and functionality at its core. The exuberant Moroccan tiles with hues of teal, grey, brown and peach complement the furniture and add an element of drama to this elegant setting. ~ Venessa Thomas (Co-Editor)

Let’s take a tour of the place with some words for the concept… The tall white entrance door with teak panelling on the sides welcomes you into the living and dining area separated by a wooden separator display for Knick knacks.

This separator seamlessly transitions creating a demarcation between the dining space and the formal sitting in living space. Before walking into the living area is a foyer with an arch shaped framed mirror that creates the expanse along with a black and gold designed console table inviting into the space.

The living area is adorned with a peach velvet upholstered sofa along with a moroccan pattern grey navy upholstered arm chair and a cushioned bench for flexible yet comfortable seating without making the room cramped up.

The round centre table with soft edges and black metal frame sits on a beige black woven rug creating a blended look. The white walls & doors gives sense of larger space to the whole house.

The main living room wall is aesthetically decorated with PU finished vertical MDF bands which not only create design but highlight the colourful hand painted plates too and that add a touch of vibrancy to the room.

The light fixtures across the entire house gives a modern touch. The tv wall unit is simple with plain lines enhanced by the vertical stack of fluted panel designs on the wall.

The pastel-hued peach upholstery gives off a soft vibe and when combined with the neutral, yet sturdy grey and blue, it creates a perfectly balanced feel.

The white marble dining table top with wooden base creates the expanse while the wooden dining chairs upholstered in a soft cotton blue velvet perfectly complements the space.

The subtle grey, white, blue with a tinge of peach moroccan motif wallpaper livens up the wall near the dining area and doubles up as a stylish backdrop.

The puja area and display cabinet with white base with bold wooden frames on the other wall of the dining area is designed to hold favourite keepsakes and organize crockeries providing extra storage space.

The focal point of the Parallel kitchen is undoubtedly its teal and cream moroccan tiles backsplash that create an element of drama.

The cream colour of the kitchen cabinets make the room appear spacious. Just like in the other parts of the home, the space utilisation is done so thoughtfully.

The combination of open and closed cabinets creates a balance between the items one wants to be displayed or conceited. The slide-in wicker basket to store essential vegetables is not only practical but aesthetically appealing.

The layout and decor of the kitchen with designated space for the amenities like refrigerator, micro oven and washing machine makes it so functional to navigate. The statement lightings helps bounce light and creates a cozy mood and makes the most of the galley kitchen.

The design of the guest bedroom has a minimalistic design approach to ensure usage of maximum space. The full height sage green wardrobe finished in Laminate with black T profile pattern, tv unit and bed side table compliment the green black hues in the room.

The headboard breaks the monotony of the room and creates a sense of calmness.

The ceiling height full length mirror does justice to the space utilisation by creating a visual expanse.

The Common bathroom is a blend of old school charm along with modern accessories The moroccan motif tiles paired with blue and white creates a chic statement without overwhelming the space. The intriguing patterns really make one get floored by it!

The master bedroom looks elegant and contemporary with its blue furniture, upholstered bed headboard and geometric pattern wallpaper. In fact the geometric pattern on the wallpaper with grey, blue and brick red undertone creates a 3 dimensional effect making the room appear vibrant and cheerful.

The wooden backdrop behind the large oval mirror creates a layered effect with the vertical stripes and gives it a sharper finish. The full height storage Laminate wardrobes are not only functional but also an effective way to utilise space.

The floating tv unit in a white tone with enough storage accommodates all the tv essentials without cluttering the space.

The curtains with geometric patterns seamlessly blend with the theme of the master bedroom thus making this private space dwell into feelings of restfulness and relaxation.

The detailed planning and meticulous execution based on clients need and lifestyle is incorporated in this house by Mili Gajra, making this kutira or home for the owners.
