5 Tips For a Cozy, Warm, Uplifting Room

Cold, uninviting rooms can be a drag, especially in the winter months where we tend to settle in the comfort of our homes. The ambiance, lighting, and temperature of your room is so important! Here are five tips to make your room more hospitable.

1. Invest in a Space Heater

A space heater is one of the best ways to make you feel instantly cozy and warm. They are portable, easy to control, and efficient in heating up your space. Plus, you can mount them anywhere, meaning your space heater won’t take up any actual space!

Make sure you look around for reviews before you buy your space heater. Consider reading this review by The Electric Home which details the importance and efficiency of one of their personal favorites – the EKB.

2. Throw Blankets

Probably the best way to enhance the comfort and coziness of any room is to layer grey faux fur throw blankets on each other. Drape them anywhere- on your bed, your sofa, armchairs or even on a carpeted floor to give your space added comfort and even a pop of color.

Some of the best throw blankets out there are the ones that are printed. Your living space will immediately be more colorful. If your tastes lie in more subdued colors, try going for fluffy grey or black throws to give your room that stylish statement.

3. Wall Decorations

Nothing says personable and cozy like wall art! It’s a great way to showcase your personality, give your bare walls color and decor, and make the room feel a lot more occupied.

You can purchase wall art from anywhere online- and it doesn’t have to be too expensive. Cheaper and cheerful statement pieces can be found in a range of different locations to transform your living space into a haven of culture!

If you have shelves, adding decor to them will also make your room feel a lot smaller, cozier and comforting. Things like jars, pots, photos or fairy-lights artfully strung on the shelf adds ambiance and warmth to a room. Which leads to the next point…

4. Ambient Lights

It’s been scientifically proven that warm lighting instantly uplifts mood. So, why shouldn’t your room be the source of your happiness? Fairy-lights, strategically placed lamps, or controlled lighting (where you can control the level of dimness) are all masterful ways of making your room feel like a safe, uplifting and positive space.

Try to pick lighting which is warm, golden and soft. Not only is warm lighting a lot more pleasing, it reflects and encourages warmth in our attitudes. A stark, white lighting reflects the cool and frostiness of the outside- and we don’t want any of that!

5. Plants!

Another scientifically proven theory to uplift the mood and enhance the ambiance of a room is to add plants. Not only are plants shown to improve the oxygen levels of a room- always a good thing…you can’t have too much oxygen- but they improve the look of the space and provide color, charm and life.

Nature is beautiful, a reminder that we belong on the earth, that we are grounded. Bringing some of nature into our living space is a great way of providing reminders to ourselves that we aren’t alone. Plants can be sources of positivity and cheerfulness.

Alternate between flowers, leafy plants and little succulents. You can even devote a section of your space to all your plants, if you prefer! Whatever you decide, don’t underestimate the power of a good plant.

Your room is a reflection of you- the place where you spend most of your time. So, remember, decoration is the key to ensuring you remain positive and giving you a space to feel at home.
