  • 4 Best Additions You Can Make to a Backyard

The backyard is a part of the house that is important to many people. Some like to use it as a retreat while others use it for entertaining, having fun with the family and pets, or gardening. Either way, making modifications could make your backyard more enjoyable, beautiful, and increase the value of your home. This isn’t true of all additions, however, as some could actually make your house less attractive both to you and prospective buyers. Here are some of the best additions you can make to a backyard.

    Ornamental Trees

One of the smartest additions you can make to your home is adding one or multiple ornamental trees. Not only can they give your backyard a truly magical feel when flowering, but research has also shown that doing something as simple as adding a tree to your property could increase its value by as much as 19%.

There are many things that you will need to consider before you add a tree, however. You first have to have the land surveyed and soil inspected. You also have to understand different hardiness zones and where you fall. Hardiness zones are denoted by geographical and climate conditions relevant to the growth of plants.

If you want to know what hardiness zone you are in, we suggest you check out this map by the USDA. Once you know what your hardiness zone is, you will be better able to know which plants would thrive in your area and which ones you should avoid.

    A Deck

If you don’t have a deck already, getting one is a no-brainer. It’s one of the surest ways to get a return on your investment. It’s estimated that the average deck could add as much as $10,000 to the value of your home. Not only that, but it’s a project that a lot of people do themselves. For a few thousand dollars, you’ll both be able to increase the value of your property and get a nice spot where you can lounge, cook, or build a nice container garden.

    Build a Shed

Building a shed is not only a great way to facilitate storage, but it could make your backyard much more livable as well. Some like to turn their shed into a mini-house, while others like to use it to keep their toys. It can also make for a great workshop, or you could turn it into a outdoor playhouse for the kids.

    Add Pavers

You could splurge on some nice pavers if you want to elevate your backyard, or you might want to upgrade your patio or create a nice pathway. You could build a pathway that goes from your house to your brand-new shed, for instance. It will add a rustic feel to your backyard and make it easier to navigate.

These are all simple additions that will instantly elevate your backyard and make it look and feel more hospitable. These are also sure to be big winners with future buyers.
