A 3-bedroom apartment with beige interiors hosts a Maharashtrian couple and their two daughters as its residents. The home’s main boast is its huge, full-height windows that let in ample sunlight – a fact which later became a key guiding point in designing the interior space.
With Beige Interiors, This Apartment Unfolds Comfort | Agneya Designs Pvt. Ltd.
As we enter the living area two elements stand out – the emerald green Baroda stone and the soft vanilla walls. The deep green stone with varying patterns, used as the platform in numerous pieces in the house, and paired with walnut wood, lends depth to the space. The melted cream walls running through the house cast an ethereal glow over the dark-toned furnishings.
Textures, shapes and patterns play an important role in breaking the beige monotony. This can be seen especially in the living room, where, a variety of creams is displayed on the walls. The concentric waves formed behind the dining and riding up to the ceiling above, followed by the checkered pattern on the TV panel, leading to the custom made Crane bird wallpaper, add layers to the classic tempo. The textured colour-blocked curtains in the same two primary shades, bring about a coarse richness.
Along these walls, standing aloof in the dining corner, is the Crockery unit featuring an intricate pattern made from the Green Stone. The sharp, angular grooves cut across the natural pattern of the stone.
The kitchen in and by itself is an ocean of green and brown, with the solid wooden shutters sandwiching the stone in between.
The inner areas of the house consist of the master bedroom, daughters’ bedroom and the guest bedroom. These three make up the private zone of the apartment. In all three rooms, designers have introduced a bright yellow, reflecting the owners’ vibrant nature. This meticulous selection in colour shapes up to be a welcome contrast against the sombre outer spaces.
The master bedroom has been kept almost entirely off-white with pops of colour on its two walls facing each other. A yellow TV box becomes a focal design element on the front wall, flanked by full length cream and rattan wardrobes.
Meanwhile, the opposite wall sports a curved bed back panel of vivid pink and sober rattan, encased in a thread-like black frame.
The same theme has been carried on to the daughters’ room, with a few extra touches. The desk utilises a play in levels and juts out of the white and yellow wardrobe to create an interesting study corner.
The dresser also exhibits semi-circular shelves cum wall art that combines utility and vanity. Although, the primary design component is the last-minute organic beige mural, painted by the designers. The mural is subtle yet playful, perfect for the room’s inhabitants.
The final bedroom serves as the guest room and the design reflects a merging of the grounded nature of the living spaces with the lively bedrooms. A platform bed is pushed against the elongated windows. The room’s ceiling is painted the same vanilla as the lounge outside while majority of the furniture is kept white, making the light-filled room appear larger than it is.
The strategic equilibrium achieved using meticulous use of colours, textures and patterns gives the home a one-of-a-kind depth and brings balance to an overplay of elements. The design differs from the ongoing minimalism trend and aims for a more characteristic identity with beige interiors.
