  • What is the main difference: architecture VS interior design?

And this question is the most common. Well, it’s probably the most common question people want to ask but never do because they don’t necessarily know how to phrase the question. Or they are afraid of appearing stupid by asking stupid questions. Don’t worry, there are no silly questions about this as it is confusing.

For the most part, the practice of separate but interrelated spheres of architecture and interior design is common. The process of design is often the same for both paths. There are architects who only do architecture. There are I.D. who choose the finishes and furniture first. There are people who do both and go down that line. This also means that if a firm works with an I.D. or architect outside their own firm, it’s best to work together with all the design consultants as early as possible. This ensures that the project looks and feels coherent. Sounds tempting, doesn’t it?

But then again, what the hell is the difference?

An attempt must be made to clarify the murky gray waters of this issue. It is impossible to promise 100% clarity, but one can hope to clarify some issues.

In its simplest form, when you hire an architect, people consider not just the shape of the space, but also the big picture, such as life safety issues, engineering, exterior materials and important code issues. For a house, this means what the exterior looks like, how the house performs from an energy perspective, building permit processing, and often how the interior enclosures and cabinets are arranged.

When you hire an I.D., he or she usually deals with the parts of the project: the exterior appearance of the interiors. This may include the choice of tiles, hardwoods, carpets, wallpaper and the selection of cushions, accessories, etc.. Ideally, this includes working with an architect on the layout of the rooms and how cabinets, furniture and other items fit into the layout. This ensures that windows are positioned correctly, rooms are appropriately sized and that the entire space looks harmonious.

In the middle gray zone are the often ambiguous services that many I.D. and architects perform. It includes choosing interior finishes such as tiles and woodwork, designing interior fronts and details, and planning space for furniture placement.

It’s worth adding that the term ‘interior decorator’ is a much smaller subset of the term I.D. and refers more to the selection of soft goods, furniture and window treatments (and is often equally valuable as a consultant).

A lot depends on how we perceive space. It can affect a person’s mood, health and ability to deal with situations. Since physical structures such as our offices or homes are important in our lives, how we perceive these spaces is very important.

Interior design is all about customising these spaces. An I.D. is someone who does this in an aesthetically pleasing and financially manageable way. They design the inside of buildings or homes in a way that creates a positive mood. While the architect designs the construction, the I.D. customises it for his or her clients. If you’re a I.D. beginner and want to promote your work, try to buy instagram followers to sell your work.

Once the building is finished, the responsibility for accessorising and furnishing the empty rooms  lies on the interior designer. As the name suggests, these people internally decorate the site and design the interiors of the place according to the purpose for which they will be used. Often there are clients who have had a great relationship with an I.D. in the past, and they invite that person to the table (hopefully early on), and most firms welcome such a working relationship. After all, this is the client’s home, and helping them find their way to a great finished product is a serious task, no matter what level of interest or diversity of design consultants they want to bring to the project.

    Conclusion

Architects are the main planners of any construction project. They either work for a public/private organisation or are independently contracted. Their job involves designing and constructing physical structures according to client needs, building use, public policy and environmental impact. And don’t be afraid of firms and people who buy instagram followers on their works, look up comments and make a whole picture.

While the architects construct the building, the interior designer decides how everything is arranged inside this physical structure according to the client’s needs. It is their responsibility to discuss the plan, needs and budget of the project.

When thinking about your project, you need to think about what services you think you will need or want, and then put together a team that can pull it all together. Carefully analyzesanalyze all the parts of your home you want to treat in addition to the basic design, and see what your consultants can do and how it is paid for. (Often architecture and interior design services are paid slightly differently). If you think ahead, it will be a better project that looks holistic and wonderful.
