“Home is where the Heart is.” Designed with not just creative ideas, but also keeping in mind the personality and the well-being of the home-owners, this 4BHK apartment in Vadodara, Gujarat, shares the same sentiment.
“We have inculcated quite a few creative elements in the design. But we have ensured that those elements don’t overwhelm the space as a whole. The elements are subtle, like a warm surprise, and lend charm to the whole project,” explains Ar. Ajal Shah, Principal Architect at Studio Imagine.
Well-Being And Functionality Sit At The Center Of This Minimal Vadodara Home | Studio Imagine
Bathed in cool colours of blues, greys and whites, this room radiates tranquillity. “The designers divided the whole open-space into two sections: one faces the TV, and the other serves as a cosy nook for sitting and chatting.”
“The designers kept the furniture layout movable and minimal, allowing people to rearrange the couches and center tables to create a bigger space when needed keeping the user well-being on priority.”
Another thing that draws one’s attention is the curved wall extending from the TV Unit. The slight curvature brings in so much texture and a creative splash to the space.
The swing is another showstopper. The backrest mimics the curvature of the wall, unifying the whole design. The wall-clock is another feature that makes you stop and look. The elegance of the piece and how it seamlessly matches the design is indeed a stroke of brilliance.
The dining area adjoins the living room in a typical open-floor plan. “A full-body tiled top and a white panelled base give the six-seater dining table a simple, elegant look.”
The pink chairs brings colour to the setting, making the space feel wholesome. The crockery unit behind the table is perfect for storing everyday cutlery and dining table embellishments.
“The block of wooden rafters on the ceiling also reflects the soft wood interspersed with pink in the crockery unit.” The pendant light in concrete grey enhances the beauty of the space.
The kitchen is opposite the dining area. While the whole kitchen is white, the cream marble top and the floor tiles match it perfectly. The dash of blue on the bar-chairs and the movable partition on the wall adjacent to it adds a pop of colour.
The cabinets and the drawers provide ample storage space – a big plus for the user well-being – and the breakfast bar makes the space fun and functional.
The passage that leads to the bedrooms is also curated with a lot of care and innovative ideas. The false ceiling supports chandeliers that make the passage glow beautifully. The end of the passage is a truly ingenious design with layered MDF sheets and a hand-painted family of elephants. The elephants were also like a representation of the young family of the home-owners.
The first master bedroom has gorgeous wooden-flooring. “The designer (or artist, decorator, etc.) keeps the color scheme on the hues of browns and beiges.” The ombrè effect on the wall behind the bed is alluring. The circular wall-piece of the two deer is artistic and chic.
“Someone made the end-tables rectangular and rounded off the edges, giving them a soft and elegant appearance.” The chair and a coffee table beside the bed are a great spot to curl up with a good book and a hot cup of coffee.
“Interesting combinations of rounded-rectangles in various sizes and colours panel the TV wall, making it look like a pretty jigsaw puzzle. The designers have kept the TV unit minimalistic to give the wall more focus.”
The dressing mirror is a décor element in itself with curved edges and the LED bulb lights. The design of the vanity and the placement of the blubs are uniquely creative making it perfect for the well-being and ease of accessibility for the users.
This master bedroom has incorporated a colour-shades of periwinkle, soft whites and soft wooden finishes.”A modest texture covers the bedpost wall, while the circular artwork steals the show.”
“The structure of the palmet above the bed matches the end-tables, with one curved and the other straight.”
Another clever element in the design is the rod beside the vanity. It not only looks good, but can also act as a suspended storage shelf for vanity items.
The wardrobes are spacious and pair well with the overall theme of the room. The open-shelves in the corner utilizes the space in the best possible manner.
The third master bedroom is a cacophony of violets, whites and creams. The wall behind the bed is texture to look like a whole terrazzo tile.
The cubes on the wall seem to be dissipating from the vanity mirror. The bed-back is elongated with the upper half representing the curvature that’s present in the entire design element.
The wardrobes are kept floor-to-ceiling for maximum space utilization and are bestowed in beautiful woody textures.
The study is simple with a floating desk and a couple of shelves, but the pattern and the design makes it look a hunder-bucks.
The fourth room has been converted to a combination of Study and Puja room. The temple is made picturesque with a pink lotus motif as the handle and minutely cut grill that ensures ventilation to the God at all times (an important lesson in Vastu Shastra).
The bells atop the arch are not just auspicious but also look pretty. A divider with bells and cut-circles has been erected to separate the study and the puja space. The study table is a simple floating desk, with two more floating shelves in an abstract design. The wardrobe in neutrals sports a niche that can be used as a display space.
“We have put our hearts and souls into this design. We have had countless meetings and discussions with the client, trying to know how they envision their dream home, and trying to bring it to life keeping their well-being at the core. The clients loved the design and that’s the biggest reward that we can get,” concludes Ar. Ajal Shah of Studio Imagine.
