As the doors to Lune swing open, earthy warm tones envelops the senses, transporting guests to a world where ancient traditions meet modern flair. Within the walls of this restaurant, nestled in the heart of the Idyllic boutique hotel in Bhopal, guests are privy to a design conceptualised by architect Manu Sharma of Tracing Edges. The clients’ vision for Lune was to create a dining experience reflecting progressive Indian cuisine — modern, vibrant, functional, and timeless. And in response to the brief, the studio exercised a design that combined natural elements, intricate artwork, warm tones, and energetic accent colours.
Warm Tones And Earthiness Envelop The Interiors Of This Boutique Hotel | Tracing Edges
As guests step into Lune, a stunning 1,600 square-foot oasis, they immediately witness a prominent design element, arches. Here, three majestic arches rise like sentinels, defining the space with elegance and purpose. Each arch serves as a gateway to a specific realm: the entrance, the billing area, and the food service area. The boundaries are clear, yet the atmosphere remains airy and unconfined… Lune seamlessly flows through the entire floor.
Two distinct seating zones, carefully crafted to accommodate 40 patrons, unfold like a canvas of possibilities. A sinuous, concrete wall sweeps across the space, separating the two seating zones while creating a sense of fluid dynamism. On one side, a café-style area beckons with its chairs and tables; on the other, a luxurious lounge invites relaxation with its plush sofa seating. Beautifully crafted by Isha Khosla the ergonomic metal frame chairs boast angled backs to ensure comfort and support. Paired with granite-topped tables featuring metal pipes and plywood legs, the chairs strike a perfect balance between form and function. The show-stopping 38-foot sofa, stretching from wall to wall, is a masterful blend of plywood, metal, and plush suede fabric, inviting relaxation and repose.
The restaurant’s free-flowing layout creates a spacious, luxurious atmosphere, elevated by a thoughtful, minimalist material palette. Terracotta was the ideal choice for the primary material… it brought an earthy warmth and texture that elevated the dining experience, and connected guests with the restaurant’s concept. While not a direct client requirement, this material complements the desired warm tones, enhancing Lune’s modern yet organic aesthetic.
The terracotta walls and ceiling were paired with earthy handmade ceramic floor tiles, a 22-foot black granite bar with fluted MDF patterns, and an undulating bent plywood wall. Sustainable elements include jute lamps, clay bricks, and creative use of brick and reuse of plywood waste in panelling. Unique, handmade terracotta artefacts and wall art, crafted specifically for Lune, add visual interest and a layer of depth to the space.
With its thoughtful design, sustainable elements, and bespoke art and furniture, Lune has set a new benchmark for fine dining in Bhopal.
