Tucked away in a quiet side street in Kochi, Kerala, the “Workers of Art” studio office feels more like a second home than a workplace. The team wanted a space for working, sharing, and growing together. A limited material palette of cement concrete, high-density fiberboard, and matte PVD-coated mild steel rods adds versatility and function throughout the design.

KAARYASHALA is a workspace designed for an architecture firm, blending a studio-oriented environment with a homely feeling. The design reflects the firm’s sustainable design practice and two-decade-long journey. Every aspect, from site selection and space organization to construction materials and artwork, was carefully chosen to embody a soulful, meaningful process that resonates with the firm’s ethos.
The workspace occupies the third storey of a newly constructed building, surrounded by lush greenery. Large openings ensure abundant daylight and natural ventilation. Situated in one of the city’s most prestigious areas, the design reflects the elite surroundings through its thoughtful forms and spaces, maintaining a balance between isolation and connection to the external environment.
The administrative office for the Metallic Bellows factory is located on a site of around 16,000 sqm at Vallam, Sriperumbudur. The proposed office is built to the north of the existing manufacturing factory facing the road. The single-story brick-covered structure has glazed office rooms adjacent to gardens with wide brick paved walkways connecting the various spaces.
The main intention of this project was to enhance and exaggerate the ‘as found’ spatial condition of the site with as little articulation of spatial gestures as necessary to house an architectural practice.

A basement at -1200 level minimized site disturbance, and the decision to keep the ground untouched, except for pathways, preserved the garden space.

The site lacks specific context, at the same time the abutting road chops the site into a trapezoidal shape. We transformed this progressive movement of the road along the site into geometry by wrapping up the spaces into a continuous facade.

Born four years ago during the creation of a basement on a sloped residential site, the design process was organic and intuitive, shaping light wells, access points, and structural elements naturally in response to the environment.
