Located in the heart of Raipur, yet away from the chaos of the central market, is a refined 6200 sq. ft. residence built on a 4000 sq. ft. plot. Rightfully named the ‘House of Grace’, this Raipur home embodies simplicity, sophistication, and tailored luxury. Designed by Piyush and Sonal Agarwal, co-founders and principal architects of SPDC, the project was driven by a very straightforward yet insightful brief from the clients—a family of simple yet discerning individuals. “We envisioned a Vastu-compliant home that would prioritize natural light and ventilation without compromising on functionality. A unique requirement was a dedicated covered car park for their collection of luxury cars. Beyond that, they entrusted SPDC with the creative freedom to design the space, knowing the team would balance their functional needs with aesthetic brilliance,” says Piyush.
Editor’s Note: “On the pillars of simplicity and elegance, this house reimagines quiet luxury. Earthy color palettes, flowing lines, and light-filled areas render a seamless abode. Where careful craftsmanship and family dreams meet, a home is born where each room speaks of warmth, intimacy, and ageless appeal.” ~ Anusha Sridhar

Spread across three floors, the design vocabulary exemplifies a timeless charm, transcending fleeting trends to create an earthy-hued sanctuary. The home has been strategically sectioned into various functional zones. This includes drawing and living rooms, four bedrooms, a kitchen, a mandir, multiple washrooms, a massage & jacuzzi space and a service area. While the project had no significant restrictions, the challenge lay in creating an expansive, light-filled space within the plot’s constraints. “To achieve this, the design prioritizes open, interconnected spaces that allow for smooth flow and visual openness while accommodating the family’s daily routines. Soft curves replace sharp corners, extending from the furniture to the false ceilings and staircase designs. This unique approach contributes to the overall flow and warmth of the space,” says Sonal.
The entrance is marked by a charming garden and a covered car park for two cars, creating a welcoming first impression. The bungalow’s exterior features travertine marble as the primary material, exuding timeless elegance. A striking CNC steel mesh serves as a focal point on the front corner, while an MS-fabricated canopy with a Vox PVC ceiling adds a contemporary touch to the top floor.
A geometrical layout creates an interesting visual for the exterior facade. According to Sonal, this synergy of angles, vertices, and lines lends a three-dimensional depth to the facade and is one of the house’s most interesting features. The pathway to the main door is flanked by a car park on the left and a spot of green with a sit-out area to the right.
A door adorned with gilded finishes and a lobby with inlay flooring set the tone for the rest of the home. The ground floor features an open-plan layout, a double-height living room, and an 8-seater dining area connecting seamlessly to an outdoor garden.
As one enters the drawing room, on the right is the first master bedroom with an attached dresser and washroom. This floor also houses the kitchen, a powder room and the mandir. A staircase adjacent to the drawing room leads up to the next level, with a lift centrally located for convenience.
The first floor is dedicated to the family’s private spaces while the second floor has an added bedroom, storage area, servant’s quarters, laundry room and terraces. The living room is a space where each detail alludes to a personal tale and truly resonates with the homeowners.
Glimmers of glowing gold, serene green and grey pop in each corner of the area, reflecting against the pearl white and marble floors. The accent marble wall in the living room is flanked by perforated columns, enhancing both ventilation and visual appeal.
A monochrome console with matte metal pedestals lends an artistic flair to the space. Behind the living space is the dining area, which includes a mandir (prayer room) seamlessly integrated into the space.
The mandir, with its CNC plywood back panel, finished in gold liquid metal paint, and its solid wood base featuring customized lotus petal detailing, creates an intimate spiritual experience. The team cleverly partitions this with a sliding glass door, allowing the space to be closed off when needed.
The team douses the drawing room in neutral tones of grey and pastel shades as the primary palette, enhancing the calming, airy atmosphere. Though open and connected to the dining room, the design cleverly conceals the kitchen behind utility areas, ensuring the home remains visually cohesive while allowing for practical storage and cleaning functions. The team also tucks a powder washroom behind the staircase for added functionality.
A guest bedroom with an attached washroom is also located on this floor, offering privacy and comfort for visitors.
The design dedicates the first floor to the family’s private spaces. To the left of the staircase, the daughter’s bedroom and a massage + jacuzzi room form a tranquil retreat.
On the right, a spacious master suite with an attached washroom, dresser, and seating area overlooks the front of the house with a full-length balcony and an accessible terrace.
The second floor contains a guest bedroom, a store room, servant’s quarters, a laundry area, and a service terrace.
The latter is visually disconnected from the rest of the house but is linked to the ground floor via a spiral staircase.
Also, a large terrace for the owners’ personal use is located adjacent to the bedroom, ensuring privacy and sweeping views.
“The ‘House of Grace’ interiors echo the thoughtful fluidity of its layout, with soft curves replacing sharp edges to craft an inviting warmth. Moreover, from the furniture and staircase treads to wall panels and false ceilings. This cohesive design philosophy fosters both comfort and continuity. Enveloped in a serene grey palette that embodies understated elegance. Further, this home is a testament to our vision of creating spaces that resonate with harmony and timelessness.,” says Sonal.
