Clear Planning And A Calm Design Define Noah’s Ark Residence | VSG Studio

[Sassy_Social_Share]

Noah’s Ark is a contemporary residence designed as a calm and welcoming home with a clear planning. The client’s brief was to create a home that felt simple, warm, and timeless without becoming overly minimal or impersonal. Noah’s Ark responds by blending clear planning, honest materials, and personal elements, resulting in a house that is both understated and full of character—a space designed to age gracefully with its inhabitants.

L-Shaped Planning and Spatial Openness

The house is planned as an L-shaped volume opening towards the north and east, allowing abundant natural light while protecting the interiors from harsh heat. This configuration creates an inviting gesture, where the built form opens itself to the garden and outdoor spaces, strengthening the connection between inside and outside. Stepped terraces within this L shape create overlooking spaces at each level.

Spatial Organization and Flow

The L-shaped layout becomes the foundation of the spatial planning. It helps organize the house into clear functional zones while maintaining visual continuity across spaces. Movement through the house is intuitive, with views constantly extending towards greenery, bringing a sense of openness and ease to everyday living.

A simple and restrained exterior material palette uses exposed brick, white plastered surfaces, and exposed concrete. This limited selection allows the architecture to remain quiet and grounded.

In select areas, patterned cladding details the brickwork, creating depth and texture on the façade. These patterns introduce a subtle play of light and shadow, changing the appearance of the house through the day.

Material Palette and Interior Expression

This simplicity continues into the interiors. Polished Kota stone flooring runs throughout the house, creating a seamless base that ties the spaces together. To add an element of play, we introduce inserts of yellow Jaisalmer stone, rough Kota, and white marble at key locations.

These material accents add warmth, texture, and gentle contrast without overpowering the overall calmness of the interiors. A full yellow Jaisalmer floor finishes a small part of the living room facing the south window, creating a sun-filled reading nook.

An important layer of character comes from thereuse of the clients’ existing wooden furniture and placement of their travel souvenirs throughout the house. These pieces add familiarity and a sense of time, balancing the clean interiors with warmth and lived-in comfort. These pieces add the gentleness and personalisation to create a home that shows its own unique character.
