    Design Brief

Designed as an extension to a multi-generational farmhouse, this luxurious retreat is a contemporary vision, rooted in tradition. It is a sanctuary that fosters togetherness for a tight-knit family of twelve. The residence also allows pockets for quiet reflection, offering a balance of communal areas and private pockets of space.

    Designers’ Ideology

“Taking cues from the architectural language of the existing farmhouse, we wanted to create a design that would flow naturally from the main house to the pool, embracing its surroundings,” Principal Architect and Founder Ritika Rakhiani explains. “The Pool House is intended to feel like a natural extension of the family’s lifestyle, connecting them with each other and the environment.”

A Harmonious Dialogue Between Architecture and Nature

Blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living, the structure is defined by a long, sleek contemporary form clad in glass and metal. This not only reflects the surrounding greenery and pool, but also integrates the views of the existing luxurious farmhouse. Reinforcing the studio’s signature site-sensitive approach, this project emphasises sustainability, blending modern design seamlessly with the natural environment.

    Structural Elegance

By employing a prefabricated Light Gauge Steel Frame (LGSF) construction, the studio ensured minimal environmental disruption. This method not only preserved the property’s mature trees and expansive lawns but also significantly reduced material waste and energy consumption during construction.

    Design Choices

Ritika elaborated on the intent: “The family’s love for their lush surroundings inspired us to create a space that would celebrate and integrate with nature. By choosing LGSF construction, we also minimised carbon emissions while enhancing structural durability.” The cantilevered roof, extending from 16 feet to 11 feet, adds dramatic flair and practical functionality. It facilitates rainwater harvesting, ensuring the site’s greenery thrives sustainably.

One of the most captivating features of The Pool House is its ability to transform throughout the day. By day, the structure blends seamlessly with its surroundings. Its glass façade reflects the lush green landscape and pool, creating an extension of the property.

    Roof Design

The cantilevered roof makes a bold statement with its clean, minimal lines, while providing shelter from the elements. As day transitions into night, the house comes alive, glowing from within.

    Facade Design

The dramatic roof, which had been a subtle daytime feature, becomes a beacon of light. It casts a gentle glow over the property, enhancing and lighting up the entire property. It is during the evening when the space truly captivates attention, its façade seeming to melt into the night, leaving the interior lights to animate the structure.

A Sanctuary for Leisure and Reflection

Accentuated by the poetic play of light, the interiors are a study in understated luxury. A contemporary material palette harmonises with the natural beauty beyond to create something iconic. Beige stone flooring, light-hued textured walls, and a wooden-slatted ceiling establish a tranquil ambience.

    Family Lounge

The space houses a family lounge and dining area that transitions into a fully equipped kitchen and bar, alongside a discreet powder room.

    Kitchen Space

Highlights include a striking stone-clad kitchen island and bar counter with multi-hued finishes, eclectic artworks from the family’s private collection adding personal warmth, and minimalist furniture arrangements enhancing focus on the lush outdoor views. Further, a wooden deck extends from the structure to the pool, forming a dynamic, interactive hub for gatherings and leisure.

    A Heartbeat for Family Connection

For this tight-knit family of twelve, The Pool House is far more than an architectural achievement—it has become the heart of their luxurious farmhouse. As one family member beautifully expressed, “This space has become the heartbeat of our home, where every corner holds a story and every gathering creates a memory.” The flexibility of the design ensures that the built can adapt to the family’s diverse needs across the year—whether it’s for social activities such as board games and movie nights or for quiet moments of reflection.

    Thoughtful Design

Ultimately, this project exemplifies the power of thoughtful design to shape a space that is not only functional but also deeply connected to its environment and its inhabitants. With a focus on sustainability, nature, and family, it is a space where memories are made, and moments of togetherness are celebrated.
