This Home with Indo Australian Interior Design has Clean and Quirky Aesthetics | Build TLA

With meticulous attention to detail, we created a space with Indian and Australian interior design that balances clean functionality with quirky elements, providing a serene and vibrant atmosphere for the parents’ second innings. The apartment caters to the functional needs and aesthetic preferences of retired parents living in Mumbai while taking into account their Australian-based kids, was a thrilling challenge for our team.

Editor’s Note: “In sleek serenity, the essence of Mumbai meets Australian sensibility in a symphony of design. This apartment, a canvas of tranquil hues and vibrant accents, embraces functionality with poetic grace. Hand-glazed details and clever solutions conjure a serene yet lively haven, seamlessly blending the elegance of retirement with the heartfelt whispers of familial connection. Every corner narrates a tale of harmony and refined comfort.” ~Shagun Shah

To optimize space, we employed clever design solutions throughout the apartment. The TV unit, for instance, seamlessly wraps around and extends into the passage, blending functionality with an unexpected touch of whimsy. Similarly, the kitchen conceals the refrigerator and other appliances within storage units, maintaining a streamlined and uncluttered look.

Comfortable Aura

The open kitchen with a breakfast counter offers the elderly parents a comfortable space to go about their day. High chairs provide them with ease and support, and ample counter space allows them to host numerous visitors from their hometown near Mangalore, India.

The living space seamlessly extends from the kitchen, utilizing olive green tones that carry onto the backdrop of the cozy sofa area. By incorporating a stone ledge along the window, additional seating is available whenever needed.

Vibrant Hues

The overall colour scheme exudes a sense of calmness while incorporating pops of vibrant hues. The master bedroom, adorned in beige and light colors, promotes relaxation, while the second bedroom, used by the couple when visiting their parents, features a dusky, gloomy atmosphere.

Prussian blue elements, such as the wardrobe, ceiling, curtains, and headboard background, form a geometric formation that cleverly utilizes and enhances the space, transforming column offsets into a striking aesthetic feature. In the second bedroom, the platform bed adds a sense of comfort and relaxation for the couple, and its low height and clean lines contribute to the sleek and modern design of the apartment.

Thoughtful Details

Small details play a significant role in shaping the apartment’s character. We created a niche corner by cutting down the edge of the walls, providing a designated space to display cherished items. The ceiling features a curved cove light that extends throughout the living and dining areas, serving as the primary mood lighting for the parents, promoting a sense of peaceful living.

Vertical lines became a unifying element throughout the apartment, adding visual interest and identity to each space. Whether through vertical grooves in the living room, fluted laminate in the second bedroom, or a playful combination of fluted PU finish and solid colours in beige, these lines tie the entire apartment together, creating a harmonious and cohesive design.
