  • This Home For A Working Couple Is A Simple, Calm And Warm Echo Of Tropical Ease | Studio.Syahi

Tucked away in the heart of Delhi’s chaos, The Saba House is not just a home; it’s a pause. Spread across a modest 950 sq.ft, this apartment belongs to a young working couple who dreamt of something rare in an urban context, a home that felt light, lush, and unhurried. A space where the day could exhale. The brief, on the surface, was simple: warmth, calm, and an echo of tropical ease. But as every designer knows, simplicity is often the hardest to achieve. The challenge lay in infusing this compact space with soul, ensuring that storage, sunlight, and serenity could coexist without compromise.

Taking on this home felt like an invitation to rethink how intimacy and openness could share the same square footage. The working couple family longed for freshness after spending hours in closed office spaces, and the idea was to craft a place that felt like an escape, not a set of rooms boxed by walls but one that breathed in its own quiet rhythm.

    Entrance: A Gentle Prelude

Walking into The Saba House feels like entering a story told in soft transitions. The entrance, painted in a gentle coral hue, sets the tone immediately, vibrant yet contained. Half-sphere details trace the main door and continue across the pelmet panels in the drawing room, establishing a visual rhythm that runs through the home. The gesture repeats in furniture, ceiling details, and joinery, unifying the language of the space through subtle continuity.

    Living Room: Extending the Flow

The living room carries this movement forward. Natural light was scarce, yet instead of treating it as a flaw, the space embraced it. A pocket of lush indoor planting anchors the home, connecting the drawing area with the son’s bedroom. This spine of green softens boundaries and brings a sense of life into the apartment, letting the idea of the outdoors seep in. The ceiling becomes part of the narrative, its detailed panels and hemispherical motifs echoing the language of the entrance. Every surface, from the trunk-inspired coffee table to the textured upholstery, contributes to a sense of warmth that feels lived rather than styled.

Dining Nook: A Shift Toward Openness

The dining nook shifts the tone to connection and openness. What stood as a closed wall was opened to draw in light and air, turning a simple dining area into a tactile moment. Above, a navy ceiling lined with raw pine battens and delicate cornices forms a beautiful canopy. Cane lamps sourced locally cast a soft lattice of light in the evenings, warming the space with a gentle glow.

The dining table, with its curved oak legs and spherical details, stands quietly yet confidently, embodying the recurring motif of the home. This is the corner where conversations stretch into the evening, where the air feels grounded and intimate. A handwoven shawl, gifted to the client by her mother on the wedding day, hangs on the wall — not just as decor but as memory made visible, seamlessly woven into the home’s emotional landscape.

    Kitchen: A Confident Contrast

The kitchen, in contrast, steps into colour with unapologetic confidence. Blue Moroccan tiles form an expressive foundation against matte black and beige cabinetry. A hand-cut subway tile backsplash carries a handmade softness, while the expanded window washes the space in sunlight.

The multi-functional island acts as both storage and a coffee perch, reinforcing the notion that small spaces thrive not on quantity but clarity. Open oak shelves suspended with wooden spheres continue the language of the home, blending intention with play. The kitchen feels honest, warm, and entirely human.

The Son’s Bedroom: Comfort in Function

Every inch of the home has been designed with purpose. The son’s bedroom blends efficiency with comfort. Soft curves replace sharp study-table edges, and a reading nook conceals hidden storage through cane baskets tucked beneath. This cozy corner opens directly into the shared green pocket, allowing the child a connection to nature within the apartment’s compact envelope.

    Master Bedroom: Quiet Luxury

The master bedroom carries a quiet luxury and gentle openness. The brief asked for a dreamy, airy space, but the room also had to house storage, a study, a dressing area, and access to the balcony within 11×14 feet. The solution came through lightness rather than volume. A custom metal frame with cane sandwiched between two layers of glass became the door to the balcony.

Closed, it reflects light like a delicate installation; open, it lets the room breathe in full. Beneath the bay window, a storage bench hides its utility with seamless elegance. Beside it, a sliding tall unit becomes a dressing area, complete with an oversized mirror and open shelves. Despite its multi functionality, the space never feels crowded. Each element rests quietly until needed, then folds back into the rhythm of the room.

The Saba House: A Gentle Testament

The Saba House, in its entirety, is a testament to how small spaces can hold depth, character, and a soft kind of luxury when intention leads the way. It is a home shaped by emotion as much as function, where curves replace edges, greenery replaces boundaries, and light — however little — is cherished and amplified. The design doesn’t demand attention; it invites presence. It is a home that breathes gently, offering its working couple family a retreat woven with memory, warmth, and quiet magic at the end of every day.
