Designed as a dream home for my parents, Prangan is a contemporary G+1 residence rooted in the architectural traditions of Jodhpur. The intent was never to create a grand statement, but rather a timeless home that celebrates simplicity, authenticity, and everyday living.
This G+1 Residence Is Rooted In Architectural Traditions Of Jodhpur | Nest Design
Built on a compact 40′ x 60′ plot, the G+1 design prioritizes natural light, ventilation, and meaningful open spaces. A small courtyard forms the heart of the home, envisioned as a place to experience changing seasons, gather as a family, and watch a single tree grow alongside us over the years. Finished in earthy terracotta-toned flooring, the space draws inspiration from the traditional red-soil courtyards of Rajasthan.
Material honesty guided every design decision. We crafted the façade using traditional Jodhpur sandstone, installed during wall construction rather than as a surface cladding, preserving the authenticity of local building practices. Internally, we consciously avoided unnecessary embellishments. We also replaced false ceilings, excessive wall panelling, and decorative claddings with exposed surfaces, natural materials, and carefully proportioned spaces.
The double-height mandir, naturally illuminated from above, reflects traditional Hindu planning principles, while handcrafted blue artwork in the courtyard celebrates Jodhpur’s cultural identity. Together, these elements create a home that is warm, rooted, and designed to age gracefully with time.
