The 4000-sq ft home spread across two floors and four bedrooms has been designed for a couple in their early 40s, their daughter, and their parents who visit regularly. Echoing a fusion of modernity with elements of traditional design, this penthouse within a towering high-rise artfully pairs contemporary elegance with meaningful nods to its family’s Indian heritage.
This 4000 sq ft Home Echoes a Fusion of Modernity and Indian Heritage | Concepto Studio
Upon entering the front door, one is greeted in the foyer below a floating staircase. The crystal light with brass detailing gives a visual peek into the brass accent points across the rest of the 4000 sq ft home —from the grouting within the marble flooring and brass inlay on the walls to the table legs and knobs on the furniture.
A trio of gilded mirrors and a hand-carved console table sit beside an intricate Indian shoe cabinet—the first of many thoughtful fusions of new and old. Moreover, the foyer features warm golden oak floors and custom brass inlaid tiles, setting the tone for refined materials to come.
To the right, the foyer opens to the expansive open concept living and dining spaces. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide panoramic views of the city & skyline.
The living area exudes polished simplicity with muted ecru walls and sleek wood furnishings with a pop of colour coming from the upholstery and an ornate Indian wool rug underfoot. A contemporary fireplace sections the space between the living room and the dining room. Also, a large opening above it allows a focal point between the two rooms.
To highlight the expanse of the tall double-height ceiling room, an abstract hand-graffiti mural of sinuous swirls and curves flows up to the floor above, its jewel-toned emerald hues echoing on the suede upholstery of the dining chairs. Moreover, wood-sheathed backs and brass ends on the legs add a timeless elegance and polish to these chairs. Down the corridor behind lies the home’s library, powder room, and guest bedroom.
To the side of this entire space, a breakfast counter looks into the kitchen. A row of windows on the counter closes when privacy is required, and for additional convenience, there are two entrances for this room—to quickly move to and fro to different parts of the floor. A muted tonal palette and light wood across the cabinets and wall tiles allow a soothing visual experience in the kitchen. Thus, it is highlighted with Moroccan patterned tiles on the floor.
For the couple who loved books and were keen readers, the home library is designed to be cosy while also maximizing the uninterrupted views from the room (with the apartment being on the 22nd floor).
A wooden floor, walls in a soothing dusty green with grey accent tones, and wainscoting wrapping around the room give the room a luxe-style element and warmth at the same time. The powder bathroom with its deep grey monochrome palette echoes this aesthetic.
The rattan-finished guest bedroom, designed for the parents’ visit, echoes the rich Indian materiality found across the subcontinent.
One of the cane panels across the bed holds the TV. Additionally, it is designed to swivel around—offering viewing options on different sides of the room. Custom-made sheers lend a soothing charm to the seating area.
Upstairs, a cutout on the wall above the fireplace views the mural, while also opening up breathing room. Sliding foldable doors conceal the home theatre room.
Moreover, acoustic panels, cinema lights, a sofa-cum-bed, a royal red carpet and a wallpaper backdrop adds theatrical drama within this room.
Within the acoustic panels lies a door that leads to the home office. Ample storage cupboards leave room for the husband’s collection of musical instruments and memorabilia. This is the space where he practices his music while also offering a quiet refuge for this work.
Brass rafters partition the wife’s home office at the entrance from the master bedroom. Additionally, a reading nook in the form of a bay window has been designed to frame the window. The master bathroom is in keeping with the calm tranquillity of the bedroom.
The daughter’s room has been designed to encourage her keen interest in gymnastics. Moreover, monkey rails and a rock-climbing wall keeps her engaged through the day, with cushioning on the floor for safety (which doubles as floor seating)
