Balance is not found but created.
That’s exactly what studio KNest intended to achieve in this 560 sq.ft home. The design of this 2bhk apartment in Mumbai has provides a sense of calm in contrast to the city’s chaos. The brief was to design a living room and two bedrooms for a family of three.
Editor’s Note: The warm, vibrant red with hints of green and backed by white of this apartment in Mumbai reminds one of cherry-topped icing. The natural light seeping through the curtain drapes creates dynamism in the interiors. The organic shape of the furniture adds a soft touch to the space. The interiors are decorated with elegant ceramic pieces and geometric decor, thus delving into the realm of minimal luxury. – Gopika Pramod

The living room is flooded with natural light. Considering this, ‘White’ specifically was chosen as it makes the space look bigger, airier and serene. A bold cherry red sofa complements the subtle white walls.
The dining area is planned in such a manner that it creates a semi-private cozy corner within the room. To highlight that corner, a colourful wallpaper inside an arched moulding is added.
Elements like natural plants and artifacts were incorporated in the overall design concept to make the space look vibrant.
The main aim while designing the bedrooms was to make them look spacious as well as maximize storage.
Non bulky furniture with wall mounted TV cabinets make the spaces look lighter. Full height wardrobes with pastel hues in one room and fully white in other adds to the overall effect of the rooms.
In a city like Mumbai where balconies are a luxury, it was a delight to utilize them to their full advantage. In one of the rooms the balcony was made part of the room itself with a beautiful arched opening.
The overall experience thus revolves around neutrality of colour to draw attention to details, elements and textures. This in turn creates a soothing yet an eye catching ambience.
