The site is a serene one—a one-bedroom penthouse on the 5th floor, converted into a 1,500 sqft office overlooking the lush greenery of the racecourse. The home office interior design is executed with a minimal and clean material palette, reflecting my design philosophy. It includes a working area, cabin, pantry, and more. This project serves as the foundation of my professional journey, reflecting my evolving understanding of spatial design and materiality—shaped by my travels and experiences.
This 1BHK Penthouse Reimagines Thoughtful Home Office Interior Design | MH Design-Build
The design language of the space blends the clean, minimalistic aesthetic of Scandinavian design with the warm, earthy tones of traditional Indian architecture.
A key aspect of this transformation was converting a one-BHK penthouse into a functional office space. While preserving the original spatial framework, we seamlessly integrated essential areas such as the workspace, cabin, and pantry.
The outdoor terrace has been repurposed into a communal area, fostering interaction and relaxation for the staff.
One of the biggest challenges was integrating a massive slab projection in the main cabin, a remnant from when the space was originally part of the open terrace.
Since we couldn’t remove it, we embraced it as a design feature and incorporated a moulding detail that seamlessly runs along the wall. To ensure cohesion, we panelled it with the same design as the door, turning a structural constraint into a thoughtful design element.
As a sunset enthusiast, my favourite spot is undoubtedly the bay window seating in the main cabin. Positioned beside a massive window, it offers a breathtaking view of the lush greens of the protected forest area. It’s the perfect place to unwind and watch the sun dip below the horizon—an unmissable part of my daily evening routine!
A key design consideration was enhancing the openness and interconnectedness of the space, allowing natural light to flow in from all directions. Sunlight plays a crucial role in shaping the atmosphere, especially in a workspace.
To maintain this openness, the partition between the foyer and the working area was designed with strategic voids. This ensures unobstructed light and ventilation. The seamless connection between the foyer, terrace, and cabin enhances the overall spatial flow. It amplifies the sense of spaciousness, creating an airy and inviting environment.
