Editor’s Note: ‘Melange’- a varied mixture of styles. Something that is seeped in this abode, be it the gentle use of pastels in the bedroom or the extrovert layer of terrazzo on the kitchen walls. The tinted glass windows have a fresh set of dialogue with the open plan while the brick wall is a star element along with the dark teal colored console. The living room is an expanse of peaceful haven filled with the sensorial fragrance of frangipani. – Nishal Sevak(Co-Editor)

EntranceThe existing narrow entrance has been widened by removing the kitchen walls and shifting the kitchen inwards to create a spacious entrance foyer with a decorative ceiling light to create the ambience. The storage cabinets flanking the kitchen entrance have a pastel beige color at the bottom and mirror shutters with geometric patterns on top creating the sense on a larger entrance foyer. The cabinets serve as multifunctional storage units with bottom halves for shoe storage and the top halves as miscellaneous storage and a Bar.
The existing wall separating the kitchen and the living dining area has been replaced with a teak wood finished sliding partition with color full tinted glass panels resting on a Gray quartz breakfast counter with a ridded terrazzo stone cladding at the bottom.
This opens up the space to the natural light flooding through the living room window and blurring the lines between the living & kitchen area whilst visually expanding the L-shaped living dining area. The breakfast counter serves as a serving and bar counter in the event of a house party.
The beige color tone of the living area compliments the color full tinted glass panels of the sliding partition. The use of teak wood elements in the ceiling and the sofa back wall keeps the entire space fresh and timeless with a hint of Wabi Sabi feel.
The entire sofa back wall is a piece of art, with hand made banana leaf pattern broken up in sections with the teak wood bands. The corner plant next to the window adds a fresh green layer to the space.
The kitchen counter tops are done in gray kalinga stone from CMC and the multi-colored terrazzo stone dado gives a balance to the entire look of the kitchen. The cabinets at the bottom in light veined wooden laminate with black profile handle, the top cabinets in solid pastel color laminate keeps the kitchen fresh and spacious.
Den Room
This multifunctional room is an extension of the living area serving as a Home office, Kids play area, entertainment room and a Home workout room. The exposed brick wall of the entertainment unit is another element of the timeless and minimal design of the house.
Kids RoomThe blue wall in the room, complemented with the black and white wallpaper on the opposite wall keeps the room fresh for the kids. The wardrobe shutters finished in white back painted glass gives the kids a place to scribble and explore their creativity without having to worry about damaging the wall paints.
Master Bedroom : The owner’s love for the Wabi Sabi look is reflected in the design of the master bedroom. The use of beige color tones, along with the wood on the furniture, the fabric for the headboard and the corner armchair.
The arch and ribbed paneling behind the bed along with the undulated niche paneling on the opposite side all give a Zen and Wabi Sabi vibe.
Overall, every corner and room of this house gives a calming and clutter free vibe which is an absolute must in today’s day and age, with so much chaos in the outside world that we all deal with. Our homes are supposed to be a place of our Zen & tranquility where we can recharge our souls for the daily battles of our lives and such seamless, soothing and timeless space is exactly what we all desire and look forward to.
