Architect Sambhav Jain

What is the story of your passion for architecture?

My passion for architecture began early, sparked by a fascination with how spaces shape lives. This curiosity led me to study architecture, where I discovered the power of design in creating functional, inspiring spaces. Drawn to the challenge of balancing creativity with technical skill, I learned to translate ideas into physical structures. During an internship, a design challenge I successfully resolved solidified this passion even further.

What pushed you to commence your own architecture studio Architect Sambhav Jain?

Starting my own architecture studio, Architect Sambhav Jain, stemmed from a desire to bring my unique vision to life and work closely with clients to create spaces that resonate personally. A major motivator was fostering a hands-on, collaborative environment, making each project feel deeply personal. Launching the studio has been a leap of faith—one that’s proven incredibly rewarding.

Journey of Design Process!

What is the philosophy you go with when designing a certain project?

My design philosophy focuses on creating functional, sustainable spaces that hold meaning for their users. I start each project by deeply understanding the client’s vision, needs, and site context, aiming to craft spaces that inspire, endure, and positively impact people.

What is the inspiration behind your concept developments and design ideations?

When designing, I draw inspiration from the lives, routines, and personalities of those who will call the space home. I begin by understanding how my clients live, what brings them comfort, and which elements inspire them. This insight helps me create interiors that reflect their style and practically support their lifestyle. The natural surroundings and architectural context of the home also inspire my approach.

With years of learning and practice in architecture, how did you evolve your design language?

Over the years, my design language has evolved from a focus on pure aesthetics to a holistic, purpose-driven approach—combining beauty, functionality, and sustainability. With experience, I’ve gravitated towards simplicity and timelessness, grounding my work in creating spaces that tell a story. Each project reflects the personality and needs of its inhabitants while respecting cultural and environmental contexts. Every new endeavor adds layers to my approach, refining my design language to blend aesthetics with purpose and innovation.

What values do you prioritize in your life and how do they reflect in your way of work?

In my life, I prioritize integrity and sustainability; these values are central to my approach in architecture. I believe honesty and transparency with clients, collaborators, and myself are essential to creating meaningful projects. This involves setting realistic expectations, openly addressing challenges, and ensuring every design decision aligns with the client’s best interests and the long-term vision for the space.

Looking back at all the design projects you’ve worked on, which is the project that has made an impact on you?

Looking back, one project that truly left a lasting impact on me was Island City Centre (ICC) – a true Sanctuary of Splendor. Each room reflects its purpose, with unparalleled attention to detail, echoing the home’s luxurious theme in every corner. This project is a testament to thoughtful design—where every room not only looks exquisite but also deeply connects to the life it supports.

Considering the quick paced lifestyle of today, how do you use technology to deal with the project challenges?

In today’s fast-paced environment, technology is essential for managing the complexities of architecture projects and staying responsive to client needs and design demands. I leverage it at every project stage—from concept development to construction—to streamline processes, improve communication, and deliver superior results.

A Sneak Peek Into The Projects!

Could you share the story of a project which has truly challenged you to go beyond your conventional style of approach?

One project that pushed me beyond my usual style was at Malabar Hill. The client had a clear vision, different from my typical approach, and challenged me to bring a unique perspective that met specific needs while creating a distinct experience. The project required a high level of low-maintenance design, simple yet purposeful in every detail. It taught me that the most challenging projects often lead to the most rewarding, with unexpectedly beautiful solutions emerging along the way.

How do you think your projects can make a change in the way people perceive built spaces?

Well-designed spaces reshape how people interact with the built environment, creating not just functional structures, but experiences that enrich daily life. Adaptability and flexibility are also key. As people’s needs evolve, I design spaces that can adapt over time. A home, for example, should feel like a lasting sanctuary, yet versatile enough to grow with the family. Thoughtful design allows spaces to evolve alongside those who live in them, rather than remaining static.

Beyond Design!

Apart from architecture, which other hobbies inspire you to keep going?

One of my favorite activities is sketching and painting. Though different from architectural design, freehand sketches allow me to explore shapes, textures, and ideas more fluidly. I’m also passionate about travel and photography, which let me immerse in various cultures, architectural styles, and natural landscapes. These hobbies keep me inspired and grounded, constantly opening me to new ideas that I bring back to my work in architecture.

What impact has the journey of architecture had on you personally?

Architecture has profoundly shaped me both personally and professionally, strengthening my patience and resilience. It has instilled in me a sense of purpose, driving me to create spaces that not only function well but also inspire and uplift. This journey has been as much about personal growth as it has about professional development.

Looking ahead in future, what are some of the commitments to yourself to help you grow as an individual?

Looking ahead, I’m committed to staying curious and open to new ideas. I believe growth happens when we step outside our comfort zones, so I aim to keep learning—whether by exploring new architectural trends, studying emerging materials, or connecting with professionals across disciplines to broaden my perspective. Additionally, I’m dedicated to giving back to the community and mentoring the next generation of architects.

Beyond professional achievements, what personal legacy do you hope reaches the masses and can make an impact on their lives?

I hope to leave a legacy that inspires others to view spaces as more than just structures. They should be seen as environments that enhance well-being, foster connections, and promote a sustainable lifestyle. Good design is accessible, and I want people to feel its positive impact on their lives in subtle, profound ways. Ultimately, my legacy is about creating an impact that extends beyond the built environment. It encourages others to live mindfully, value thoughtful design, and recognize that spaces are not just backdrops, but active participants in making our lives richer, healthier, and more connected.
