Sowing the Seeds of Fresh Contemporary Style of Interior in an Early 80’s Old Residential Settlement | Rika Architecture

It all started with strategically decoding and unwrapping the partial load bearing building structure walls in order to unite the carpet area and carve out spaces as per client’s requirement. Sowing the seeds of fresh contemporary style of interior in an early 80’s old residential settlement was a blend of challenge and opportunity. The treatment for the house was planned to be subtle with minimal wall treatment. Every wall surface was just planned to be a canvas wall, artwork, and artifacts display.

The apartment is on the first floor and faces the garden side. The enclosed balcony wallin the living was thus lowered & opened to the outdoor with dense tree foliage at eye level – bringing up a lot of light & life into the space. Low level seating finished in Quartz is just perfect for the morning tea in company of the serene creaking sound of birds.

Grey flooring and subtle wall colours reflect client’s personality. Sofas, chairs, shoe rack, dining table and all the wall arts are customised to fit in correctly leaving enough space for the movement. The mahogany polished veneers give intense classic feel. Whereas the glass entertainment room balances the veneers by reflecting enough light.

A state of art modular kitchen to accommodate the traditional Goan cooking where frying, baking and ample freezer storage is required. Planning for the exhaust in this old residential building had been a challenge. The turquoise blue combination gives a fresh classic yet modern look to the kitchen.

The dedicated dining space was converted to TV room as a member of the family is into Film Direction. This is a multifunctional space which serves as a cinema screening room, study room, additional bedroom with convertible sofa for those overnight screenings & parties.

Wall panelling in pastel hue, wooden ceiling and flooring bring in the charm to the space. The scraped bedroom doors during demolition work have been smartly used as wall panels. The sheer curtains visually segregate TV room from living and dining.

A simple barrier free layout with pastel-coloured walls suitable for use of 2. A small study corner along with concealed wardrobe which is carved out from the adjacent TV room avoids staggers inside the room and provides free space all around.

An art lover influenced with Mario Miranda -This bedroom was designed keeping in mind the liking of the daughter. Old Wooden almirah refurbished with Ratan, glass and designer wooden legs, grey & white checkered flooring, pastel green wardrobe and Mario Miranda painting brings up the Goan Vibes to the bedroom.
