  • One Sanctuary Redefines Grey Interior Design For A Bachelor Pad Aesthetic | AB Design

One Sanctuary is a uniquely designed apartment created as a private entertainment space for the client. Though the client is married, the space is designed with the aesthetic of a bachelor pad, featuring a sophisticated grey interior design intended for relaxation and hosting guests. The apartment features a one-bedroom layout with an attached washroom, a study, a small pantry, and a powder room, all organised to reflect the client’s desire for a personal retreat within his home. The entire project was conceived with his specific needs in mind, transforming the space from a traditional multi-bedroom layout into an open, airy environment suitable for entertaining.

Editor’s Note: “Draped in shades of grey, One Sanctuary is a canvas for light and texture to play to form a retreat. Patterns of deep blue, rich marble, and warm brass accents ebb and flow between contemplation and gathering. It is the place where design intersects with personal desire and lifestyle.” ~ Anusha Sridhar

One Sanctuary Redefines Grey Interior Design For A Bachelor Pad Aesthetic | AB Design

    grey interior design

The design throughout the apartment follows a consistent grey theme, with matte finishes, which the client preferred over wood or veneer. The floor and panels are predominantly grey, providing a clean, minimalist backdrop. The design also incorporates accents of blue, seen in the main door, powder washroom, and select furniture pieces. As a result, these elements create a cohesive look that ties the space together.

    Living Area

Visitors first encounter a striking grey and black marble inlay on the floor, creating a dramatic entrance. The living area to the right features striking black and white printed armchairs that add drama to the space. A blue console ties into the main door’s colour and reappears as a highlight in the powder washroom, creating continuity.

An artistic mirror installation above the console adds a touch of sophistication. Pocket doors separate the den from the living area, allowing the space to open up when necessary for larger gatherings. The den’s entertainment area features a TV and ample seating, offering guests a relaxed space to unwind.

    Bar Area

A subtle bar area, thoughtfully designed to avoid the typical bar aesthetic, blends seamlessly into the space. However, it still fulfills its role for hosting with a sleek black and avocado green marble counter. In the living room, a custom-made rug in blue tones ties together the apartment’s colour palette. One of the design’s standout features is the powder room, which makes a bold statement with blue tiles, intricate moulding, and tropical wallpaper. Additionally, it is complemented by a Kohler Marrakesh wash basin and distinctive wall lights.

    Bedroom

Adjacent to the study, the bedroom continues the grey theme, featuring a closet and an attached washroom. Moreover, the washroom echoes the bar area’s avocado marble, which contrasts beautifully with white stone.

    Study

The study, crafted as a work-from-home space, is both compact and airy. Additionally, a wooden world map adorning the wall serves as an homage to the client’s love of travel. Light grey tones give the room an open, serene feel.

The USP of One Sanctuary lies in the meticulous attention to detail, especially in the use of different materials and colours to create a space that meets the client’s lifestyle. The design process involved several iterations, with compromises made between the client and designer to achieve a final look that satisfied both. This resulted in a space that is modern, sophisticated, and perfectly suited for its intended purpose of entertaining and personal retreat. The material palette is diverse, featuring multiple types of marble, including the avocado stone, as well as interesting fabric selections and brass detailing. Each element enhances the overall aesthetic while maintaining the apartment’s functionality and visual cohesion.
