  • One Ocean, A Hawaii Home Redefines Vacation Living | White Noise Design Studio

Every cosmopolitan family dreams of a home where the grass is greener. This family likes the finer things in life – with a penthouse apartment in New York City, an energetic lifestyle, and a taste for vibrancy – they came to us looking for something beyond what the bustling city can offer. So what must one do when accustomed to a certain quality of life while seeking simplicity for the senses? This Hawaii home is a metaphor for slowing down in a fast-paced world.

Editor’s Note: “One Ocean, sculpted by time and trust, is a return to nature. Thoughtfully designed for slow living, this Hawaii home is calm, grounded, and endlessly generous. Moreover, in its walls and windows, the family finds an essence to everyday living with the sounds of the tide and the hush of wind.” ~ Anusha Sridhar

    Design Intent

Perched on Hawaii’s breathtaking coastline, ‘OneOcean’ is a holiday home that introduces island serenity to this family’s metropolitan sophistication. Here, they can disconnect from the fast-paced urban lifestyle and indulge in their Hawaiian hideaway.

    Design Concept

The 4000 SFT vacation home is a vision in Hawaiian architecture. The building interacts with its landscape in a way that feels effortless and intended. Expansive spaces that frame the views of the coastal outdoors create the personality of this space.

This vacation home romanticizes the natural surroundings, with the team thoughtfully crafting each space to ensure a seamless indoor-outdoor transition.

    Material Palette

The lanai, or portico, extends the entrance of the house into the lush Hawaiian outdoors that feels like an organic part of the landscape. Comprising natural materials and comfortable furnishings, the space is delicate, welcoming, and well-equipped to keep its residents comfortable despite the tropical climate.

    Master Bathroom

Another sensory delight is the master bath. When designing it, we knew it had to be storybook-like, an adventure from a sleek indoor soaking tub to an outdoor standing shower enveloped in a private jungle-like setting.

Moreover, the design transforms a simple task like bathing into a wholesome experience, connecting the user to nature. Further, it engulfs one in greenery, creating a forest bathing experience at home, truly immersive spatially, spiritually, and psychologically.

    Textures

The Tango of textures, from smooth stone surfaces to lush greenery, stretches the boundaries of what’s possible in residential spaces. The lanai and master bath are our favorite spaces for designing sylvan architecture and high-end luxury.

One Ocean is as much a place for reflection as it is for relaxation. The home is adorned in sandy neutral colors and rich wood tones that soothe the mind.

    Custom Finishes

Custom finishes like natural stone, hand-crafted wood, and sleek artisanal metal accents are pleasing to the eye and elevate the visual experience.

Bespoke furnishings- thoughtfully curated and designed- provide a perfect balance of comfort and style. Personalised furniture endorses collective spaces, conversations and memories the family will make for a lifetime.

    Lighting Fixtures

We accentuated sweeping ocean views and unbelievable scenery with the perfect lighting fixtures and ambient lighting. Each space in the vacation home is treated with utmost love and care. Also, each space is an ultimate retreat within a retreat.

    Climatic Integrations

True luxury comes with a deep understanding of how well a home will age. Therefore, natural stones, weather-resistant woods, premium finishes, and quality workmanship ensure the home withstands Hawaii’s harsh tropical climate of humidity, salty air, and relentless sunlight.

Moreover, we intended for the materials in this vacation home to develop a patina over time, ageing beautifully and authentically, as its owners.

Designing a home for its context proves to be intelligent years after the home is built. Therefore, the home finds its space on the ground where it is constructed, and claims it as its own.

Moreover, the owners of OneOcean are repeat clients at White Noise Design Studio. Our client-architect relationship goes way back to the first 2-bedroom apartment we made for this family, who found a home in our design sensibilities.

Further, a beautiful relationship blossomed, and this idea of the Hawaiian vacation home was presented to WNDS with reverence. And so, a home that is lovingly crafted with an understanding of lifestyles, mutual preferences, attention to detail, and a sense of luxury is one that will age gracefully.
