Every once in a while, a project arrives that feels less like an assignment and more like a story waiting to be told. Madhav Residence began exactly that way — as a dream for a close-knit family of six, who envisioned a home that would grow with them, breathe with them, and hold the warmth of togetherness at its core.

The client bought two adjoining 5,500 sq. ft. plots to build a home that balanced connection and calm. The 100-by-50-foot site opened to the road at both short ends, a rare advantage that inspired a seamless end-to-end design.

A Plot that Evolved, and So Did the Vision

As the foundation work progressed, the family’s imagination expanded — quite literally. Two more plots were acquired on the northern side, adding another 5,500 sq. Ft. and transforming the project into something far more ambitious. What began as a compact bungalow became a garden-anchored home with living spaces that flow outdoors.

This addition redefined the architectural intent. The northern edge became the focal point—a double-height glass wall opening the living area to the lush, framed garden. Throughout the day, shifting light gently connects the interiors, with the landscape.

Designing for a Family — and for Life

The family’s requirements were simple, yet deeply personal. They wanted spaces that were warm, intuitive, and designed for daily life — not just occasions. The family’s needs were simple yet personal: warm, intuitive spaces for everyday living. The ground floor holds the living, dining, kitchen, family area, and parents’ bedroom, all linked by a central courtyard-like space and a dramatic double-height garden-facing glass wall.

The staircase, placed deliberately at the intersection of the living and dining areas, was conceived as the centrepiece — a sculptural spine tying the home together both visually and emotionally. Floating in the heart of the space, it became not just a passage between floors but a point of interaction, conversation, and connection.

The first floor offers four ensuite bedrooms with walk-in closets and balconies, plus a jhula-equipped family lounge that’s lively in the mornings and calm by evening.

On the second floor, the house turns inward again — into moments of leisure and retreat. A cozy bar and home theatre create an intimate space for weekend gatherings under the open sky.

Materiality and the Art of Restraint

What makes Madhav Residence truly special is its material honesty. The family’s vision was clear from the beginning — they wanted the home to feel timeless, grounded, and real. The architecture responds with a palette that balances warmth and rawness: Italian marble flooring for quiet sophistication, exposed brick for texture and depth, and exposed concrete to lend an earthy solidity.

The same materials seamlessly continue indoors, blurring boundaries between architecture and interior design. Wooden elements — handcrafted from solid Burma teak and Indian rosewood — replace veneers, celebrating the grain, texture, and imperfections of real wood. Every piece of joinery, furniture, and finish tells a story of craftsmanship and permanence.

Light, Landscape, and Living

Natural light defines every corner of this home. The large northern window — stretching double-height — becomes the soul of the space, framing the garden like a painting that changes mood with every passing hour. Morning light filters softly through, while evenings reflect a warm golden hue against the brick and marble surfaces.

The connection to the outdoors is constant yet controlled — providing openness without compromising comfort. The interplay of solid surfaces and transparency ensures privacy, while still allowing the home to breathe naturally.

An Architecture of Togetherness

In its essence, Madhav Residence is a story of collaboration — between the family’s aspirations and the designer’s vision, between raw materials and refined craftsmanship, between openness and intimacy.

Every inch of the design reflects thought — the staircase that becomes a statement, the garden that becomes an emotion, and the materials that quietly anchor it all. It is a home that feels both expansive and grounded, luxurious yet humble — a space where life unfolds beautifully, one sunlit day at a time.
