Aalayam, is a transitional Indian residence that celebrates craftsmanship, material honesty, and the gentle rhythm of everyday life. Designed by architect Manan Vadalia, the home is envisioned as a sanctuary, a place where “being home” feels immediate and instinctive.
Inside Aalayam, a Home That Celebrates Rhythm of Everyday Living | Manan Vadalia Architects
Every detail in Aalayam is defined by natural, tactile materials. Warm wood, hand-finished brass, lime-wash walls, natural stone, stained-glass accents, and soft Indian textiles such as cotton and linen create a palette that is both timeless and deeply rooted in our cultural memory. The home doesn’t overwhelm; it welcomes. It invites its inhabitants to slow down, unwind, and inhabit the space fully.
The project involved extensive collaboration with local artisans, a challenge that became one of the project’s greatest strengths. Through months of research and fieldwork, Manan cultivated relationships with craftspeople who shared his love for precision and authenticity.
Designed over six months and brought to life through a year of intentional execution, the home features custom-built elements throughout. Aalayam is not just a project; it is a personal milestone.
As Manan’s first work as a principal architect and a heartfelt gift to his parents, it represents his belief that architecture should offer peace, identity, and longevity to the people who call it home.
