Illuminated Elegance Transforms This Home with Visual Comfort | Studio M+N

This residence in Bhooja, Hyderabad imagines a soft, light-filled retreat where contemporary living meets the quiet elegance of classical detailing with Indian ornamentation. The designers build the scheme around a palette of layered neutrals—taupe, sand, muted sage, and dove grey—to create an atmosphere of calm and effortless warmth. Sunlight becomes a central design material, filtering through sheer drapes to soften every surface and lend the home a serene glow. Illuminated — An Expression of Quiet Radiance.

This entrance is conceived as a calm, welcoming threshold that balances warmth with restraint. Soft toned walls and clean-lined flooring set a serene backdrop, while a sculptural pendant adds a touch of understated drama. The door becomes a quiet focal point—its grid-patterned design and muted tone lending depth, order, and a sense of security without visual heaviness. Subtle lighting accents enhance its geometry, while the greenery and the console soften the composition, creating an entry that feels composed, tactile, and thoughtfully curated.

Foyer

The foyer is envisioned as a serene, gallery-like space where classical detailing meets contemporary calm. Neutral surfaces are articulated with refined moulding, creating rhythm and depth. At its heart, a Pichwai painting becomes the focal point, introducing cultural richness and a sense of timeless artistry. Warm wall lighting gently frames the artwork, while sculptural accents and curated objects add depth and balance. Polished stone flooring reflects light subtly, resulting in a composed, elegant space that feels both soulful and refined.

Drawing Room

The entrance to the drawing room sets a refined, welcoming tone with its soft, classical elegance. Delicate wall mouldings and a muted colour palette create a calm backdrop, while the embroidered wallpaper adds depth, artistry, and a subtle sense of storytelling. Gentle textures, layered curtains, and warm accents introduce quiet luxury without excess.

Puja

This exquisite Pooja Room door creates a stunning focal point with its elegant blend of tradition and modernity. The double doors feature textured, translucent panels that softly diffuse light, creating an ethereal glow. Centered on the doors is a beautifully crafted, oversized lotus motif in a subtle, neutral tone, symbolizing purity and spirituality. This design transforms the entry into a piece of art, setting a tone of peaceful reverence.

Master Bedroom

This Master Bedroom is a serene escape, harmonizing classic architectural details with modern artistry. The centerpiece is the custom-made headboard wall, featuring an exquisite backlit bas-relief carving of tropical flora and fauna by Reverie Murals, instantly establishing a tranquil atmosphere.

Elegant white wall paneling, subtle lighting, and polished marble flooring complete the look, creating a beautifully textured and utterly peaceful sanctuary.

Guest Bedroom

The Guest Bedroom offers a serene and whimsical retreat centered around a wallpaper featuring a charming, soft-hued wallpaper of an imagined forest landscape from Kalakaari Haath.  The color palette incorporates earthy tones, from the rich rust and tan pillows to the plush, warm-brown duvet. Elegant ceiling and wall moldings provide a classic contrast to the modern, art-forward mural, resulting in a comforting and visually delightful space that welcomes visitors.

Kids Bedroom

This kids’ bedroom is designed as a calm, nurturing retreat that grows effortlessly with the child. A soft, neutral palette sets a serene foundation, layered with subtle textures and gentle patterns that add warmth without visual clutter. Clean-lined leather wall panelling brings quiet structure, while plush upholstery and tailored furnishings ensure comfort and safety. Natural light filters through sheer drapes, enhancing the airy mood. The overall composition feels timeless, soothing, and thoughtfully balanced between practicality and understated elegance.

Challenges

The interior design brief for the apartment presented a distinct challenge: integrating a neo-classical aesthetic into a space whose core structure—specifically, the provided false ceiling—was decidedly minimal and modern. The builder’s pre-existing ceiling lacked the inherent symmetry and hierarchical detailing that is foundational to neo-classical design, forcing the design team to pivot from major structural modifications. The task was not to replace but to overlay: to infuse the required classical gravitas using clever, non-invasive techniques. This meant designing around the existing asymmetric ceiling planes, strategically employing moldings, recessed lighting, and ornate central medallions to create the illusion of balance and period detail, thus transforming a blank, contemporary canvas into a reflection of timeless elegance with minimal, impactful intervention.
