How to Maintain Clean Wall Tiles ?

A home without clean wall tiles is a sure turn off and that can easily ruin the first impression. It doesn’t even cost too much to maintain clean wall tiles. Also, keeping your tiles clean will save you the cost and inconvenience of replacing them. If your bathroom is tiled with mastic, it’s easy to just take the tiles off and replace them if they get grubby. For tile that is stuck with dirt, cleaning grout every now and then can be tiring.

Grout is porous and holds water, which attracts bacterial and molds growth. This makes grout difficult to clean and maintain. It doesn’t even cost too much to maintain clean wall tiles but one needs to follow some basic tips to achieve that.

Choose the Right Tile Cleaner for Your Walls

Choosing the right type of tiles for your toilet or kitchen also matters. If your tiles are made from porcelain, then you can use any kind of tile cleaner to wash them. But if they are made from natural stone, then you should purchase a stone-specific cleaner. The reason is that natural stone is more porous than porcelain, so it needs special cleaning agents in order to stay clean.

Clean the Walls Before the Grout Hardens

Cleaning the walls before the grout hardens is really important. If the grout has dried, then you will have to use a cleaning product like the HG grout cleaner to remove the dirt and mold from your tiles.

Scrub the Wall Tiles Regularly

How often you need to clean grout depends on the severity of the problem. If mildew is your only concern, one or two applications may be all you need.

  • Mix the solution in a bucket according to manufacturer specifications. To ensure consistency, use a disposable brush to apply the solution to each tile rather than applying it with a mop. Apply with a soft bristle brush (a toothbrush will work). A grout brush may also be helpful in some instances as it has stiffer bristles and can scrub into cracks and crevices where dirt and mildew have taken hold.
  • Using a pail or other containment method, scrub at the grout lines using an underhanded motion so that you don’t push the dirt deeper into the seams of the grout line. If possible, apply solution and scrub in sections so that you don’t have large areas of the wet grout line.

Good Maintenance Goes a Long Way

Tiles are susceptible to dirt, stains, and discoloration because of their porous surface. Regular care is necessary to keep them looking nice, but you should avoid using harsh products and chemicals on your tiles, as they can cause damage. Instead, use a mild soap or detergent with a soft cloth to wipe down your tiles. Avoid using bleach or cleaners that contain high levels of vinegar or ammonia, which can damage the finish on your tile and make it appear dull.

Conclusion

Walls clean easily due to their large surface area. However, they can be difficult to maintain because they are exposed to so many different elements every day. Walls should be cleaned regularly to avoid the buildup of stains or mold growth. And if you want your home to look good, you need clean walls for that.
