Situated in the central city’s prime location, this house in Kolkata presents a seamless fusion of modern and traditional elements in a sprawling 2745 sq. ft. The client’s desire for distinct aesthetics in each section resulted in a thoughtfully curated, transitional space. The decision to omit a partition between the den and the main living area preserves the breathtaking panorama of the city with an unobstructed view of the town.
House in Kolkata Presents A Seamless Fusion of Modern and Traditional Elements | Infinity Atelier
This house in Kolkata is a haven that showcases diverse design elements harmoniously orchestrated into a cohesive and nuanced living space. Every room carries a different chapter in design and era but looks like a part of the same book, conveying a transitional story.
The living area features a blend of carefully sourced pieces, including a large Pichwai painting, intricately carved furniture, and a Chesterfield sofa.
The idea of mixing western and eastern sensibilities and carving a unique space is the essence of the living area.
The dining area showcases a handcrafted table with semi-precious stone inlay work with trellis and florals, complemented by very modern wood chairs with subtle wood carvings.
Most handicrafts are created in collaboration with craftsmen in Rajasthan.
The Den exudes a more modern, clean look with glass accents and leather sofas, keeping it relaxed and soft.
More emphasis has been given to functionality here, with a custom-made modular couch, access to clean light, and some green space, making it evidently one of the most used rooms in the family.
Moving into the Master bedroom, it is contemporary with a marble-paneled wall, dark, rich veneer furniture, and meticulous detailing.
Whereas, the other bedrooms take cues from the 1950s and Art Deco era, fusing them with contemporary lives and gadgets.
Luxury is felt through the choice of fabrics, bedding, and sticking with classical forms.
The son’s room is meticulously themed in Mid Century European style, featuring a tasteful combination of blue, brown, and white hues.
In contrast, the daughter’s room has been adorned with pastel shades, allowing for creative exploration of colors. Sage green and pastel pink walls provide a serene backdrop against white furniture. It evokes a whimsical and visually engaging aesthetic reminiscent of Wes Anderson’s style.
Careful attention to detail is evident throughout. Beading work is delicately applied to the almirah and grooving meticulously crafted on the walls. This meticulous approach results in a space that exudes both humor and beauty. Thus, it reflects the creator’s unique vision and design sensibility.
Our keen understanding of the fluidity of design is evident in the careful selection of colours, furniture, and intricate details. As a result, this space will continually transform and adapt over time, mirroring the ever-changing and dynamic nature of artistic expression and personal taste. It serves as a canvas for ongoing life and evolution, where people travel and move things and artefacts around, and the space can accommodate that.
