Hence, the architects came up with unique ways to aid ventilation from different sides of the house. The site is linear and located on a plot with the existing ancestral house of the client’s siblings

It was south-facing so access was from the south. This was one of the biggest challenges faced by the designers.

Upon entering, the living and dining areas have been provided in the same central hall with an adjacent courtyard. The courtyard is a double-height space, with gray texture paint on the back wall.

A set of 3 elegant hanging lights are the center of focus in the courtyard. Wooden finishes accentuate the edges of the courtyard area. Towards the west, a prayer room is situated.

Italian marble is used in public areas to create a minimal look that exudes luxury. In the living room, a U-shaped sofa forms the center space along with a diwan. The furniture features custom-made fabric. For the ceiling, the architectural designers went with a gypsum ceiling with plywood. A television unit is provided in front of the sofa. Louvers in the laminate finish add character to the minimal space.

The ground floor also consists of two bedrooms, one of which has an attached toilet. The other two bedrooms are situated on the first floor.

The dining area is adjacent to an outdoor patio. Partition walls can be moved and the interiors become seamless with the outdoor landscape. A semi-open partition wall made of MS plate separates it from the staircase.

The staircase is a contemporary feature of the house with recessed lighting. It features a solid wood tread while the handrail design is industrial, complete with a wooden top rail.

Opposite the staircase and the dining area is another innovative element that enhances the atmosphere of the house.

A plush wash basin area that consists of an organically shaped backlit mirror. Along this setup, a display shelf is provided in veneer finish to hold artifacts also with backlighting.

The kitchen is a functional space divided into two. The work area in the back has access to the store and bath along with the central kitchen in the front.

The kitchen interiors showcase a lacquered glass finish paired with Corian countertops. The kitchen flooring is also done with Italian marble, maintaining the minimalist elegance of the space.

Coming to the bedrooms, the minimal interiors are partnered with vibrant furniture pieces to enhance the feel of the space.

The headboard is made of green fabric which stands apart against the minimal white walls. A sliding wardrobe done in veneer and acrylic finish completes the bedrooms.

The exteriors of the house give a cohesive look with a variety of material finishes. Off-white tiles are used in the exteriors whereas one can notice RR cladding in one of the corners of the house.

The semi-open partition wall used in the interiors also makes an appearance in the exteriors and is given in the place of the balcony.

All the materials used are sourced locally from nearby vendors. As one sees the exteriors, it is evident that the house consists of various openings and punctures that perforate the spaces inside.

Thus the interiors receive ample natural light and wind throughout the day. Hence, the design by Zherow Architects can indeed be called a minimalist marvel.
