Family-Friendly Pool Design Ideas For Your Backyard

Having a swimming pool in your backyard can be one of the best additions that you can make to your property, especially if you’ve got children or senior family members. Not only will you enjoy bonding with your loved ones, but everyone will have a way to stay fit and illness-free since research shows that swimming can reduce the risks of chronic illnesses. Moreover, it’s a great way to get regular aerobic activity in the comforts of your own home. If you’re thinking about adding a pool to your outdoor space, you may want to keep your loved ones in mind before committing to a pool design. Here are some family-friendly pool design ideas for your backyard.

Determine your pool depth
No swimming pool is 100 percent safe, so it’s important to keep an eye on children and senior family members whenever they’re in the water. However, you can also reduce the risks of accidents or drowning, and get more use out of your pool by determining the proper depth for it. For instance, if it’s going to be mostly used by young kids, you can have a shallow pool or a multi-depth pool that starts at about 1 foot and gently slopes to the middle at about 5.5 feet. If the pool is going to be used for water or pool games, then the minimum depth should be at 3 feet.

Make it fun
Make your swimming pool more fun by adding extra features. Consider installing deck jets so everyone can enjoy playing with thin arcs of water that shoot into the pool. You can also add other water features, such as a fountain or a waterfall to enhance the look of your pool. Don’t forget to have some lights in and around the pool – not only will they add color, but they’ll also make night swimming a lot easier.

Maximize your deck
Sure, you can put a few sunbathing beds on your pool deck, but why stop there? Maximize your deck to make it conducive to family bonding by adding an outdoor TV so you can watch movies after a nice swim. You may also want to have other items that everyone in the family can enjoy, such as a pool table, an outdoor grill, or a fire pit.
Make your backyard the favorite spot in your entire home. Try these tips to create a safe and fun swimming pool in your outdoor space, and enjoy bonding with your loved ones.
