We build and design homes every day, two peas in a pod – at home & at work. However, when it came to doing up our own dream home, there were ideas, a number of them, and disagreements, quite a few! One thing was in common – every space should feel personal, comfortable and inviting. Contemporary style interiors were the way to go. The idea was to have a curated and uncluttered home with custom made quality pieces that focus on elegance & functionality.
Every Room in This Home Tells a Story of Contemporary Style Interiors | Interior Displays
One simple thought as we designed the foyer– an entry so graceful & opulent, it makes one feel welcome & at home. A beautiful marble wall, inlayed with MOP & brass florals by artisans all the way from Agra doing their magic for over 60 days. The result- a spectacular piece of artwork!
The use of natural materials- a backlit onyx for the TV panel accompanied by the timeless beauty of veneer was all that we needed. The sofa adding a pop of colour, just enough to create a harmony with the earthy tones used in the living space.
Neutral tones maintained with the crockery unit + bar all in veneer with an Australian marble top to break the monotony. The dining table top marble with hints of green to complement the TV panel and blend with the living space.
When we began designing this room, all we knew was we’d do a glass mosaic with a dragonfly (symbolizing adaptability & transformation) as we moved to a new home. As that started falling in place, the rest of the room was chosen to be subtle with the use of curves.
The dresser was customized as a face to merge with the mirror with gold foiling, adding some drama to the otherwise muted look.
The parents wanted it simple & comfortable, with furniture that was easy to maintain. An upholstered bed with the wardrobe finished in PU and drawers on the outside was made to keep functionality the top priority. An accent wall (bed back) with custom handmade tiles from Delhi and complementing louvers completed the look.
The brief we received from our 4 year old- I’d like a pink room with many books. Not very happy with the choice of colour (after doing pink rooms for girls all the time) we decided to give her what she wanted.
Shades of pink with white, rounded edges throughout, toy storage that’s a neat set of drawers, a cum bed so there’s enough floor space to play and space for lots and lots of books that she can reach herself. The water color look penguin wallpaper was what stole the show here!
Our favorite corner in the house offers some peace to unwind after a day’s work. Whether it’s a quiet morning coffee or a fun evening with friends, it’s where we truly relax. We had different wants. However, the specially designed aqua terrarium to rehome our fishes fulfilled all our needs and, in fact, became the highlight of the house.
