Project Lighthouse embodies purposeful renovation house design. An ornate apartment was stripped back and re-imagined as a modern minimal retreat. Located in the heart of Bangalore’s Central Business District, the home was originally steeped in glossy finishes, decorative frills, and ornamental flourishes. The client approached us with a clear brief: to deliver an opulent, functional home while honouring a tight budget and reusing the existing frame to the maximum extent. Non-negotiable requirements included a walk-in wardrobe in the master bedroom, a fully operational kitchen in addition to the existing island, and the inclusion of a water fountain.
The name Lighthouse emerged both literally and symbolically. Standing for clarity, guidance, and emotional grounding in the midst of an overstimulating urban landscape. The project is a story of transformation, restraint, and purpose-driven design. Further, an exercise in intentional subtraction rather than addition.
The primary design challenge was not to build a new, but to thoughtfully transform the existing setup. The design journey revolved around precise editing, re-skinning, and spatial reprogramming, guided by both practical and emotional cues.
Editor’s Note: “Project Lighthouse adores purposeful transformation with its renovation. Forming a fine dialogue of minimal yet elegant interiors, the house is comprised of soft curves, a neutral palette, and wooden furniture. Enhanced with organic forms, fluted glass panels, and layered textures, this home accentuates a grounded feeling for its dwellers.” ~Rajvi Dedakiya

One of the most impactful interventions begins right at the foyer. Previously dominated by a garish zigzag mirrored wall, the entry was stripped down and texture-painted to evoke a calm, grounded arrival. A full-height shoe cabinet and a fixed bench, subtly resembling a swing, were introduced between fluted panels. Further, adding warmth and layered depth. An organic mirror and minimal console drawers offer soft functionality, reinforcing the shift from ostentation to serenity.
The living room became a space of quiet drama, anchored by a rich olive green sofa and contrasted with a black-and-white patterned accent chair. Here, the team made a strategic architectural move by resolving an awkward structural column with a sculptural curved wall. They balanced it with a curved fluted-glass partition that subtly conceals a newly created laundry zone. Together, these two curvatures form a dialogue. Further, balancing structure and softness while enhancing flow.
The dining space, visually contiguous with the living area, was defined by a minimalist wall panel and a streamlined console unit. This insert lends a touch of everyday elegance without overpowering the open layout. In the kitchen, the existing cabinetry was retained, but all visible elements were elevated: new shutters, subway tiles, and fluted glass inserts provided a clean yet textured backdrop. A boxing detail aligned the overhead cabinets to the lintel, visually containing the volume. The kitchen island, previously disjointed. Further, modernised using muted stone and tactile materials, giving it newfound visual continuity and purpose.
The team repurposed existing elements with modern flair. Further, reupholstering and re-detailing beds, retaining and refacing kitchen carcasses, and reinterpreting furniture using new materials and customisation. These upgrades not only met the budget but preserved the emotional connection to the home’s original elements.
At the heart of the home lies the value wall, a double-height feature set between the two bedrooms. Framed in bold black trims, it inscribes the teachings and values of Jesus, acting as a spiritual and emotional anchor for the home. More than just a statement wall, it offers resonance, grounding the space in belief, balance, and intentionality. Moreover, the value wall framed in bold black trims highlights the purpose of this home.
Soft light and muted tones anchor the master bedroom. A custom-tailored headboard, warm lighting, and a calm, layered palette created an atmosphere of quiet luxury, refined without being sterile.
The walk-in wardrobe became an elegant and functional extension, fully integrated into the architecture with minimal structural disruption.
The children’s bedroom was designed to be gender-neutral, flexible, and future-proof. Modular storage, soft finishes, and an open layout allow for easy transitions as the child grows, avoiding the need for constant redesign.
One of the most space-savvy transformations was the conversion of balconies. One balcony seamlessly enclosed to create a walk-in wardrobe adjoining the master bedroom, fulfilling a key client request without impacting the room’s spatial footprint. Another reimagined as an alfresco pantry, perfect for morning coffees and informal gatherings. The third became a scenic retreat, with a live-edge wooden table, breezy patterned flooring, and a cascading water fountain. Bringing tranquillity into daily life.
Nebulous craftsmanship brings the design to life. A cohesive warm neutral palette, layered with subtle textures, black accents, and diffused lighting, flows through the home like a quiet rhythm. The team chose materials not for trend but for timelessness. Furthermore, they combined matte laminates, soft veneers, texture paints, fluted glass, and muted stones into a tactile composition. Black details, like curtain channels, trims, furniture lines, and mirror frames. Further, punctuating the spaces with precision.
Every inch of the home reflects function meeting form. Small but impactful design details. Like the alignment of cabinet shutters with ceiling lines, or the ergonomic positioning of storage, underscore the project’s holistic thinking. Even in reuse, the team reinvents: they tailor headboards, resurface tables, and transform existing furniture into bespoke solutions.
The pairing of the curved wall and the curved glass partition is the highlight. Hence, a sophisticated response to physical limitations that introduced motion, softness, and fluidity into the plan. Further, a curved partition resolves an awkward column and a curved glass partition conceals a laundry room. Moreover, these interventions quietly elevated the spatial language of the home.
Project Lighthouse stands as a testament to a tranquil haven that embodies the perfect blend of form and function. What sets it apart is its clarity. It doesn’t seek attention through visual noise, but through restraint, coherence, and honesty. It is a quiet revolution. A reminder that powerful design is not about how much you add, but about what you choose to keep.
