Do you know that your apparently clean carpets hold so much dirt, dander and pollution inside?
Astonished!
No wonder!
It happens because you can say that your carpets feed on all this dirt and debris. This is not visible apparently as it settles at the bottom and becomes visible only when your carpet vomits it or your house starts smelling gross due to sour burps of your carpet cleaning.
Regular vacuuming does not help with the thorough cleaning of the carpet that removes these pollutants. They remove the only visible dirt as you are only cleaning the carpet surface and keep vacuuming till you see any debris on the top. But as soon as you start smelling that foul smell or feel your carpets getting faded with dirt or some spills, the problem has grown far beyond your control, and domestic carpet cleaning fails here.
But don’t worry, we are here to get it solved for you, so you can keep a sharp eye on your carpet cleaning.
You don’t need to run the vacuum casually on the surface, but need to clean the carpets slowly in depth so the settled dust and dander is removed. Take special care in the places that are more exposed to your kids and pets. Because that’s the dirtiest and most dangerous way of spreading diseases and causing allergies.
Most people vacuum too quickly. A fast pass picks up a fraction of what a slow, steady one does. The suction needs time to work. Going slowly, especially in high traffic areas, makes a real difference to how much actually gets removed.
You need to be tricky when you are cleaning the liquid spills, they settle down quickly on the carpet surface and leave marks that look bad on your carpet, and sometimes even don’t go with professional cleaning.
You need to be very quick and efficient when you see a spill on your carpet, and bring a clean cloth and cold water to blot it. Blotting is the right way to clean the spills out of the carpet, but it only works on fresh spills. If a spill gets old, it starts mingling with the dirt and debris inside the surface and starts developing air pollutants.
So be quick to blot the carpet spills and don’t rub them because rubbing doesn’t actually clean. And hot water also helps them settle deep in the surface.
Shop-bought carpet cleaners are not suitable for every carpet type. Using the wrong product on a wool carpet can cause shrinkage or colour damage that cannot be fixed. Always check what your carpet is made from before applying anything to it, and test on a small, hidden area first.
Some products also leave residue in the fibres after they dry. Residue attracts dirt, so the carpet gets dirtier faster after cleaning than it did before. If your carpet always looks dull or grimy shortly after you clean it, the product you are using may be the reason.
Hallways and the paths people walk regularly wear and soil faster than anywhere else. A rug or carpet runner in these areas takes the direct wear instead of the carpet underneath, and it can be taken outside and beaten or washed on its own. Door mats at every entrance catch a large amount of the dirt and moisture that would otherwise get walked straight onto the carpet. Most of what ends up deep in carpet fibres comes in on shoes from outside.
Regular domestic carpet cleaning keeps things manageable between professional cleans. It does not replace them. Hot water extraction reaches deep into the fibres where allergens, bacteria, and dust mites settle, and home cleaning cannot get there. For most households, once or twice a year is enough. If there are pets, young children, or anyone with allergies or breathing problems in the home, more frequent professional cleaning will make a visible difference.
To keep your carpets clean and the air inside your home fresh, you need to be regular with deep cleaning of your carpet. Get lazy with a spill, and it will spoil everything from the carpet to the health of the living beings inside the house. Your house will start smelling foul due to the dirty carpets, and all this won’t go away easily or even completely, even with professional help, because some spills get hard with time and leave a permanent mark.
The best way to keep your carpets clean and your home feeling fresh is by following the tips mentioned above for domestic carpet cleaning.
