Situated in a densely populated area in Vadodara, the plot was set amidst an old gated community with minimal greenery. In a plot of 1200 sq.ft., the client demanded a rather large brief for a family of two – a mother and his son. The site’s only view was towards the road and hence required good use of levels. The concept being, designing exterior open spaces maximizing the view towards the road whilst maintaining the visual privacy as well.

The requirements of the client unfold on different levels in the house based on the nature of spaces, giving a gathering space on the first level and the private spaces on the upper levels. A lift foyer, parking and a quarter for house-help has been designed on the ground level.
The first floor is an open plan with public spaces for reading and dining, and a guest bedroom. At the rear of this level, a kitchen has been provided with an attached store. An overall theme of warm browns, neutral grays and rich gold has been followed on this level.
Puja room on the second level has a beautiful ambience. L-shaped wooden louvers allow natural light from the East to cast interesting shadows in the day. During the night, moonlight casts a serene and calm spell in the volume.
The mandir and tulsi kyarah, intricately carved out of Indian Marble with Mother of Pearl Inlay are key highlights of the room. There are two more bedrooms on this level.
The master bedroom on the third floor also serves as a home theater with a sound system of paradigm 7.1 and houses a semi-open bar area facing the road. Master toilet with an attached dressing is cladded with rich glossy black Italian stone and has black glossy finished wardrobes.
On the terrace level, an outdoor Jacuzzi and an open bar area with an attached store room were provided. As plants breathe life in any room, we have provided in-situ granite planters on different levels.
Travertine cladded vertical mass juxtaposed with the wooden box forms the main elevation of the house. The interior designing was to be done in a manner where it gave a hotel-like vibe (a requirement by the client). Hence, burberry beige Italian flooring on each level with leather finished furniture and wooden ceiling was the main brief followed by us for interiors.
