A Workspace Design For An Architect And A Developer | AS Architects

An architect’s own office can become a repository of ideas and values – closest to the architectural practice. For AS Architects’ new office, the principal designers began an attempt to embody his young practice’s central values: honesty and humility, in a compact 600 sq.ft. space located in suburban Mumbai. A workspace design for an architect and a developer with shared office area, efficiency and optimization in terms of layout was a challenge tackled with finesse and dexterity.

A Workspace Design For An Architect And A Developer | AS Architects

The foyer and reception area is a composition of fluted glass, grey marble and polished birch ply which comes together neatly with the backdrop of Kota stone flooring. The material palette is an unconventional choice for a developer’s office, but stays true to the designer’s philosophy of truth to material and honest design.

The language of clean lines and neat grooves is followed across the office, either on walls, storage shutters or on the ceiling. The design choices reflect an uncluttered, efficient way of working, while being future-friendly to expansion and modular growth.

As a playful gesture to keep spirits alive, one wall of the reception area holds an ‘Instagram photo corner’, showcasing achievements, memories and regular updates! Adding to the play, wave-like gentle curves become the base of a small, custom-designed bench.

The formal reception and foyer is a composition of grooved birch ply panels and grey marble in a backdrop of white walls. As a visual screen, a translucent fluted glass partition allows for a gauzy flow of light, while providing privacy to other rooms.

The meeting room is designed with an edgy look. A sleek dark glass-topped table compliments the patterned back credenza. This space is visually different from the rest of the office, to bring a sense of newness to the palette of muted greys, browns and whites.

In the Director’s cabin, a handcrafted table in oak wood is a playful exploration of soft curves and thin grooves, rendering an earthy feel to the space.

The table is an epitome of design precision, with carefully crafted curves, which are great ways to keep the table-top dust free while also complementing the room’s design theme.

The washroom stands out as a colorful fantasy. Intended as a space “where most of the thinking happens”, bolder and bigger colors are allowed to run riot and make an impact.
