A Subtle Colour Palette In this Residence | Aum Architects
Ar. Manish Dikshit of Aum Architects presents this resplendent residence designed for a luxury experience, incorporating the aura of an oasis in the dense city of Mumbai. With a subtle colour palette and abundant natural lighting, the interiors curated for this house are in complete alignment with the overall architectural grammar of the expanse. The floor plate constitutes of a perfect segregation of spaces including a huge living space connecting the dining area with a secluded mandir and distinctively designed private scape.
One enters this house to discover the grandiose of a lavish living space outlined with minimalist design style highlighted through fine-drawn wall treatments. The marble cladding on the wall serves as the focal facet with the veins of the marble creating an intricate pattern spread across the wall, boasting of an ascendant aura. With a basic geometry, marble wraps around a delicate ledge, encompassing displaying classic décor elements. Contrived in champagne gold, the opposite wall is designed with a fluted effect. With bespoke furniture configurations like a dining table with copper black painted glass top, wooden legs resting on a marble base and seating replicating a bench with tall chesterfield backrest, the design scheme engages stark detailing. The commodious kitchen located opposite to the dining space is also designed with a simplistic design style.
Carved with purity, the mandir forming a part of this long living room, depicts the traditional values of the residents. A faux chevron inlay on the flooring gives an appearance of a carpet, forming the entrance of the mandir. The door panels at the entrance here, constitute of a laser-cut Jaali pattern in pristine Australian white marble with hammered metal handle. The same pattern is etched on the glass surface beneath, replicating the jaali amidst granting the facet with intensities at two different levels. Hence, the sphere represents an amalgamation of ethnic and modern elements of the mandir and the living room, respectively. The overall flooring of the house is done in Burberry beige marble, complying completely with the design scheme of the space.
There are two distinctive passages on either side of the living room, where one leads to the hand wash area and master & guest bedrooms and the other leads to the parents’ and daughter’s bedroom, respectively. The former has been painted in Azure blue shade with a wall bracket light adorning it whereas the latter comprises of a statuario marble ledge resting on wooden supports holding a floral arrangement complimenting the wall art. The hand wash area is cladded with Azul marble with the notion of adding an aesthetic value to a utilitarian purpose space.
Each bedroom has been designed exclusively for the respective family members evoking their individual choices with a common palette as that of the social spaces.
As one meanders to the private scape at the right of the living area, the master bedroom here is designed with a sublime attributes. The juxtaposition of a stark walnut veneer running from the shutters of the wardrobe to the ceiling with the overall warm sand tones in the bedroom, confer onto a cozy shell over the bed. The length of these shutters elevates the height of the room which is further amplified by the height of the chesterfield headboard done in tan pure leather. The master bathroom has been done up in statuario marble with white and matte black sanitary fittings exemplifying a subtle character.
Moving forward, the Parents’ bedroom is fabricated with a linear geometry where the wardrobe and back panel of the bed are skillfully crafted in straight lines with naturally weathered grey bur oak veneer and white Corian. Having limited the use of veneer, the white matte Corian’s predominance grants a virtuous spirit to the room. Keeping the fixed elements subtle, the designer has played with the textures and colours in the form of fabrics. The washroom here is done in St. Laurent black marble throughout. With gold accents in the form of bisazza glass mosaic tiles & sanitary fittings and an assortment of ambient and sharp focus lights, space epitomizes dominance.
The daughter’s bedroom at the left of the living area can be categorized under Scandinavian minimalism, both in terms of colour & material palette. Maple veneer dominates this space with tints of powder blue on the wardrobe, lighting element and the study chair. With custom made highlighter tiles, the shower area’s flooring boasts of Prussian blue bands running from the floor to the wall breaking the cliché of using highlighters only on walls. Marking the youth of the bathroom user, it is accessorized with artworks and fun elements.
This sumptuous residence is a sheer assortment of compositional styles ranging from being geometrical to Scandinavian, posing for a sophisticated opulence. A concoction of styles marks this residence’s presence amongst the multitudinous luxury houses being designed in Mumbai presently.
