Designing a home is always a dialogue between functionality, aesthetics, and the people who inhabit it. The Rathi Residence, designed by interior designer Bhavana Chandak, is a thoughtful exploration of modern contemporary living. Completed in 2025 in Aurangabad, this 1800-square-foot residence with a pop of color transforms a compact footprint into a home that feels expansive, vibrant, and personal.
At Fourth Dimension Studio, the guiding philosophy is “Adding Personality to Spaces” — and the Rathi Residence embodies this ethos at every turn. From bold design accents to intimate, customized details, the home reflects not only a design style but also the essence of the family who lives within it.

The residence embraces modern contemporary aesthetics along with a pop of color, balancing clean architectural lines with tactile surfaces and artistic interventions. Designers use curves and arches consistently across spaces—from mirrors and wall panels to furniture details—creating a sense of continuity and soft elegance.
A neutral color palette forms the foundation of the home, allowing pops of bold hues like deep pink, emerald green, and patterned upholstery to bring energy to different rooms. The interplay of textures — velvet, rattan, wood, stone, and glossy finishes — adds depth, while curated artworks and accessories infuse individuality.
At its heart, the Rathi Residence is not about imposing a rigid design language but about curating spaces that adapt to daily life while sparking joy through detail and storytelling.
The living room is conceived as the center of family interaction and social gatherings. A base palette of muted neutrals creates calm, while a pop of color through bold pink sofa acts as a sculptural focal point. A modern artistic accent wall enhances the space, lending dynamism without overwhelming it.
Carefully scaled furniture keeps the compact space feeling airy. Clean-lined coffee tables, accent chairs in patterned upholstery, and soft area rugs introduce layers of comfort. Accessories are minimal yet meaningful — curated artworks, vases, and sculptural pieces that personalize the setting.
Lighting plays a pivotal role, with warm ambient layers balanced by statement pendants and concealed strips that highlight architectural details. The result is a living room that feels luxurious but approachable, equally suited for lively gatherings or quiet evenings.
The dining space sits adjacent to the living room, acting as a graceful transition between public and private areas. Here, the design emphasizes elegance and intimacy.
A six-seater dining table with a marble top anchors the zone, paired with chairs in textured patterned upholstery that lend vibrancy through a pop of color. A subtle wooden backdrop with integrated shelving creates warmth and provides space for display and storage.
Thoughtfully designed lighting creates an intimate atmosphere, with a soft pendant casting a glow over the dining surface and making the space inviting for both family meals and entertaining.
The master bedroom blends functionality with refined luxury. A custom headboard featuring fabric panels and subtle arch detailing acts as the focal point, setting a serene tone. A muted palette gains richness from warm wooden flooring, soft linens, and accent lighting.
Storage is integrated seamlessly, ensuring clutter-free comfort. Accessories are minimal yet personal, reinforcing the room’s role as a calm retreat.
In contrast, the children’s bedroom is playful and vibrant. Customized wall panels, pops of color, and layered bedding create an environment that is both cheerful and adaptable as the children grow. The design balances fun with function, providing ample storage, study zones, and open floor space for play.
The guest bedroom continues the contemporary narrative, with muted tones, layered fabrics, and a bespoke headboard. Thoughtful details — from accent mirrors to carefully placed lighting — ensure comfort for visiting family and friends.
What makes the Rathi Residence unique is how it reflects the client’s lifestyle and aspirations. Each corner is designed not just for beauty but for usability — from the cozy family-friendly living space to the functional yet stylish bedrooms. Accessories and artworks are chosen to tell the family’s story, making the home personal rather than purely decorative.
Lighting is treated as an integral design element rather than an afterthought. A combination of ambient, task, and accent lighting defines moods across the home. Cove lights highlight ceiling curves, pendants mark functional zones like dining, and wall sconces add intimacy in bedrooms. This layered approach enhances both aesthetics and utility.
Recognizing the importance of small pauses in daily life, the design incorporates intimate nooks and a welcoming balcony.
The balcony is dressed in natural textures, greenery, and comfortable seating, creating a refreshing extension of the living space. It serves as a retreat for morning coffee or evening relaxation, seamlessly connecting the indoors to the outdoors.
Inside, reading nooks and corners are designed with soft lighting, cozy seating, and curated accessories, giving the family multiple touchpoints of relaxation throughout the home.
A hallmark of the Rathi Residence is its layered materiality. Smooth marble flooring forms the base canvas, complemented by warm wooden finishes in furniture and paneling. Upholstery ranges from soft velvets to breathable fabrics, introducing both comfort and luxury.
Accents of rattan, glass, and metal bring variety, while carefully chosen artwork adds character. The interplay of matte and glossy finishes ensures visual richness without clutter.
Working with a 1800 sqft footprint, the challenge was to create a sense of spaciousness while accommodating all functional needs. This was achieved by:
The Rathi Residence is a testament to thoughtful design in compact urban living. With its contemporary palette, tactile richness, and focus on personalization, it demonstrates how a home can be both functional and expressive, modern yet timeless.
For interior designer Bhavana Chandak, the project is an exploration of design that is not about trends but about creating a narrative — one where architecture, art, and life converge seamlessly.
