  • A House Where Colors Take a Backseat and The Textures and Patterns Steal the Spotlight | Robust studio

“In a world where crisp and straight lines are given priority, the ‘house of serene’ is swathed with textured arches and curved surfaces. With a rejuvenating set of shades for its color palette, the house has careful yet fun-crafted details.”- Nishal Sevak(Co-Editor)

“There’s wisdom in Natural Simplicity!” This adage proves right for this astounding abode in Vadodara which is simple yet significant in each frame. Ar. Mrugini Pandya, the Principal Architect and Founder of Robust Studio, has conjured up a house where colors take a backseat and the textures and patterns steal the spotlight.

A House Where Colors Take a Backseat and The Textures and Patterns Steal the Spotlight | Robust studio

Robust Studio’s latest project is a picturesque bungalow in the fast developing area of Vadodara. This 1800 sq. ft. of den is doused in muted colors and playful textures, giving it a soothing vibe.

Even as you step into the house and get to the front door, you are engulfed in a feeling of serenity. With neutral colours such as grey and varying shades of white dominating the design, the mellow yellow of the wood gives the entrance a natural lift.

The horizontal stripes of the flooring are reflected in the horizontal grill of the main door, while the circular wooden pattern on the main door mimics the circular nameplate and the texture of the wall.

The living room was conjured to be a timeless space, paying homage to the calm and soothing vibe of this young family of four. The colour palette was kept neutral while the textured micro concrete wall and ripple effect of the TV wall were the highlights. A serving area that opens up to the kitchen creates an illusion of a longer room and infuses utility to the area.

The arch is a recurring element in all of the designs with the arch of the serving area being mirrored in the wall opposite as well as the bespoke console table.

The on-site curated bohemian artwork above the console table, the plant-patched TV unit and the south faced – two vertical slits in the TV wall that bring sunlight into the house are all accessories that amplify the beauty of the living room.

The kitchen has been designed keeping functionality in mind. The modular cabinets with dual counters give ample storage and plenty of space to work around the kitchen. The green tiles above the stovetop that function as a backsplash are handmade.

These not only build on the aesthetics, but also are also easier to clean and maintain. Even though the kitchen follows the neutral shades of greys and yellows, a pop of green in the tiles, the fluted glass behind the cabinets and in the plantation nook of the countertops, accentuates the liveliness of the kitchen.

The common bathroom of the house is painted a soft yellow. The picket-fence paneling on the wall behind the basin and the droplet shaped mirrors on the wall breaks the uncomplicated symmetry of the space.

The study is a catchall room that can be used as a guest room, a study area, as well as a display area for the family’s mementos. The arched display behind the bed is showcased as an extended headboard, while the fluted mirror on the closet gives the impression of more space.

The study table is kept minimal – giving it a vibe of a cute corner.

The master bedroom is an amalgamation of Japanese and Indian style of architecture. Shoji Panel – a Japanese style of divider inspires the wood-striped panel on the walls, creating a feeling of a warm embrace.

This is also matched with a traditional touch given by the Pichwai print fabric used on the upholstery. It is imperative to note that the harshness of straight lines is offset by softly curved surfaces of the furniture.

The bathroom is contrived with the use of Italian Statuario finished tiles. This white colour gives the bathroom a serene ambience while also making it appear pristine.

The kids’ room is splattered with shades of green, with a beautiful forest green taking the centre stage and giving the room a playful jungle-like vibe. Cheerful cactuses for the headboard of the bed and ghost shaped study-cabinet are some of the fun elements in the room. The corner storage with a sitting nook was conceived with the notion of giving the children a space to unwind.

To assemble a look that is both playful and chic, lively hues of blue are selected for the kids’ bathroom. The bathroom is created to be both functional and practical as well as fun and cute.
